For the record I don’t thin Marner would be trades but here is an interesting swap. (Also he goes out west)

Just based on some other threads ... this trade gives the leafs a different type of goal scorer and Winnipeg a playmaking winger and special teams player. It also gets Toronto out of cap hell and isn’t a huge difference for Winnipeg.

As for defence it gives the leafs some money to bring someone in. Slava Voynov is totally not a Dubas player but just throwing him out there as an interesting name... does he return to the league???

I believe that Kyle Connor is worth more than Marner...as a player and then you add the contracts and Marner is worth even less. So you will have to pay more for Connor.

Voynov did jail time for assaulting his wife. There is no way TO would ever even contemplate signing that quagmire. He should never play in the league again for principal alone.

It's a rule on this site that all Leaf players are overrated and over paid. Even 90 point players.

I'm sorry, did you just say Kyle Conner is better than Mitch Marner? LMAO. Conner is probably the most overrated player in the game. He was the worst defensive forward this season & is average when it comes to generating scoring chances. He is only a one-dimensional goal scorer who gets carried by Scheifele. It's not even close honestly.

I don't see the Jets having any interest in paying a premium to take on Marner's bloated contract. This just makes the Jets more expensive and not any better. The Jets need a 2C, not a winger.

Marners good, I just like Connor more his style of play. I'd say they are pretty dang close.

Marner isn't overrated, but he is overpayed. When you compare him to others...so be it

Well, Marner’s overall in NHL 20 is 90 & Conner is 89, so yeah they are close. But statistically, they’re not. Obviously Conner is worth more cuz of the contract issues.

Connor is a better finisher but Marner is the better play driver. Marner doesn’t need a good centre to play with to get him points, Connor does. That said, Marner is overpaid. By a lot! Too much cap space allocated to a winger.
I would take a Marner Connor swap if Toronto are some cap

Fair enough, but their is leafs fans who over value their players as well that's what you get with a user generated sight

Ok...I have never watched a Toronto game where Marner isn't playing with Matthews and/or JT. But he's overpaid I agree. My point (I stated in the wrong terms above) is that Marner and Connor are close to eachother in skill but Connors contract is amazing.

Lol...games are pretty crappy for "overall values" but ye, I don't even play NHL20. But I like Connors scoring ability which is better than Marner. Marner is fairly good defensively...steals are always way up there.

LOL I am a Jets fan and I can confidently say Connor is much worse then Marner. Still not 100% sold on Marners contract though.

The contract is the killer... Sure Marner is definitely better than Connor... But is he $3.5 Million for 2 less years better? That $3.5 Million could go a long way in bulking up the back end.

Not to mention, Roslovic+ for Johnsson is a non-starter.

For that, the Jets say "no".

Yeah I wouldn't do this trade because of Marners contract but I would probably do it if it was a 1v1 swap.

I wouldn't do a 1v1 swap either. The increase in player value doesn't equal what that cap space could mean further down the lineup.... Especially at this time. A flat cap this coming offseason... no idea what the pandemic could mean for next season... We probably are looking at fairly small cap increases for the near future. Add to that the fact that Laine will need a new contract next year, and hopefully Samberg and Heinola getting sizeable deals shortly after that.... I'm more than happy at the 35- 40 goal production from Connor, on his contract, even if he provides little else.
