Description
Looking into shedding some of the obvious cap. Putting trust into the youth of the team, especially on defense. Strome trade addresses a glaring issue (come on hawks fans, Crawford has not been good). Plus, I just don’t have a liking for strome’s all around game.

Seabrook is sat permanently, cuz let’s face it, this team looks so much better without him in the team.

No idea what to do with Shaw simply because if I had it my way he’d never lace up skates again. I genuinely fear for his life with his post concussion syndrome and his playing style.

Assuming the hawks actually beat the oilers, no idea who we’d take in the draft, but in my scenario, We go with a center like lundell if he’s available. Granlund signing is meant to bridge the year or two between lundell being nhl ready. Plus he brings some good speed. Also, I do hope at some point next year kurashev, kalynuk, and even regula get a shot at nhl level. Most of our young prospects have been grown the right way lately. From 2010 to 2017 that really wasn’t the case. Hopefully 2017 to 2020 and beyond proves to be a return to form.

Okay, I like that, If debrincat was the start, do you think that could be straight up or need more?

I'm honestly not sure, but whoever adds it wouldn't be much.

lamoriello obviously thinks highly of sorokin considering he burned a year of his ELC so I don't think he'd be interested in trading him. I'm just stating what I would do and what I think is fair given the islander need for more shooting talent in the top 6

Woah. Sorokin hasn't yet played nhl game.

I get that, but if someone did put me to the sword and said debrincat or kuba for sorokin straight up, I kinda lean towards cat. In cat’s case that may mean isles add, but considering how good sorokin does look, it’s hard not to jump the gun a little.

You aren't making the pick. Don't be offended by anyone calling an NHL front office a bunch of cowards. Grow up.

This may just be me, but as of now, at least for the next 12 months, I kinda wanna make Saad expendable. Not because he isn’t good, but let’s just listen to offers ya know? De haan is a guy in this series that has gladly made me want to hold to him until at least the expansion draft. Lastly, Barrett is a guy I just want to get faster, that’s the only knock I have on him for now. Same can be said about lundell, but as I’ve grown to love about lundell, he’s just so damn smart he’s always where he should be anyway.

I'm not sold on Lundell being more then a 3C as of now because of his lack of speed and more a defensive player, but he'd make a great 3C. If he could improve his speed...not an easy thing to do....and be a future 2C behind Dach as 1C then that would be amazing. Barratt I think is Kampf's replacement and although Kampf is good defensively, he is pretty brutal offensively (now watch him score a goal today).

Oh I get that, this is just debate and discussion. Lou definitely seems to like him and it’s well warranted, sorokin looks phenomenal.

Ehh, at present, I get that logic, for sure. I do think lundell is much well rounded though. Strome kinda looks like he’s grown as much as he can. Yes he’s only 23, but he more or less looks like the finished product. Lundell has grown me a lot and I do think he could be a great 2C with a great two way game. I am a big askarov fan, but the hesitation comes with a history if evidence. Believe me though, if we kept strome and took askarov, I would completely understand it. Completely see where you’re coming from.

for sure - it were up to me, I'd trade sorokin for debrincat. It would suck losing sorokin , but it fills a huge need for the islanders.

Isn’t Barrett meant to be more of a 3C? Also, is his game more two way or offensive? I only ask because if he’s meant replace kampf he seems to be out of place on the fourth line.

Lundell was a guy I was really not sold on pre outbreak. Shoot, go back Look at posts where I talked about him. I do agree he’s more defensive and we could really use a game breaker with an intense speed game at center. That being said, lundell is still a hell of a talent and his corsi was third best in his league at 18 years old. I’ve always been a fan of run and gun possession hockey. If he can add to that, I’d take it.

Barratt's game is two way from what I've seen but he's not all that fast and he's defensively responsible. Not sure if he will make it as a 3C but way too early to tell.

Lundell just doesn't have the speed as you know and speed is very difficult to teach...one of those things. That said, Dach got knocked on speed and between the regular season and the playoffs he's obviously improved quite a bit to the point that I wouldn't say he doesn't have speed so I guess Lundell may be the same as Dach predraft.

At this point, I’m kinda looking at the draft saying it’s a 3 horse race for the hawks pick of lundell, Jarvis, and askarov. I know askarov is a risk, but I’m getting used to the idea of taking him more and more. As for lundell and Jarvis, I really feel like they both hang on the long term plans for Saad and strome.

Without question, I’m listening if they come to the table.

I'd guess part of the deal would be cleaning a lot of the Islanders cap mess. Ladd, Komarov, Boychuk, Hickey types would be in the deal...

That certainly looks like the only way a trade like this is affordable for the isles. In that case though, I think the isles would have to add a pick. Not a 1st, but maybe a high 4th/low 3rd.

I'm okay with trading strome away for a good core piece. Its more I'm not a huge lundell fan in general. I think between askarov quinn sanderson and holtz theres better options if were picking at 10

I'm thinking Lundell, Sanderson or Quinn but Jarvis I like as well. That's if the Oilers win, if the Hawks win then Jarvis or maybe Holloway

Oh yea, if we pick 10 then I’m all for holtz if he’s available. However, if we beat the oilers, we’re back at 16-17 range. In that case, I doubt Quinn, Sanderson, or holtz are available.

Honestly, if those are the two available at number 16-17, flip a coin. I’d take either one. Personally, I do think askarov would be the more pressing need, but Jarvis could be another good shooting winger.
