I don't see that happening without Florida having to give up multiple picks and/or prospects. A first rounder 2 years down the road is not the kind of value Detroit should be looking for in this kind of maneuver.

7 years is just such a very long time. Yzerman will have built a contender by then. That contract is a big anchor.

But knowing Florida could very well be a bottom 10 team in 2022. And since the league won’t let us pick first, maybe we can win the lottery with Florida’s pick.. Shane Wright might be worth Bob.

Honestly, I still wouldn't do it even if it wasn't lottery protected. If we can't resign players because we have an ageing Bobrovsky we're in the position Toronto is now where we have to mortgage the future for pennies on the dollar.
If you make this move you receive more in return, and need to be really confident in your goalie coach.

You acquire bob for shane Wright....regardless long as he doesn't bottom out completely can flip him to other team at a tdl retain 50% & get another asset from that team..being Bob cost only 3-4m at that point..worst case scenario

Shane Wright has no NHL value right now. He's 15. He's not an NHL player for 3 years, and likely isn't star caliber for another year or two after that.

How would you, as a general manager, justify to your team's ownership that you're taking on the mega contract of Bobrovsky for an asset three years down the road? What are you doing to win now? What are you doing to address the rebuild now? That risk is absolutely unacceptable.

Look at the pieces Detroit has right now, and look to build around that age group. Picks this year or next are king, and names like Knight, Noel, or Tippett in Florida's system are the next best thing.

You absolutely cannot flip bob at 50% at the deadline. He has 6 years left on a deal. That would be $3-4 million of dead cap for 6 years! The price of doing that would be ridiculously high!

If you want to call it a mega dump, give the appropriate pieces for said dump, a 1st in 2020 and 2022, Spencer Knight and a defensive prospect, or Tippett. If you are reading that and thinking it sounds ridiculous. So is dumping Bobrovsky, that is why it would not happen...

Seems a bit odd considering at best (Panthers dead last) that’s still only a 18.5% chance at Wright. Knowing our luck it would be a mid to late round first.
