Description
I like Murphy, he's capable of actually playing defense and can be a responsible right handed partner for Rielly. I like Dermott but I don't see where he fits in to be completely honest and johnsson is cap we don't have room for.

Feel free to rip this to pieces and tell me how it's awful trades and how i should hate myself for even being born. :D

I think straight up Kapanen for Murphy makes more sense. Hawks dont really have a spot for Dermott either at the moment and Kap is more attractive than Johnsson. I think generally people go with Murphy +2nd for Kap + 3rd or something along those lines. Now, with the addition of Pius Suter, there isnt too much room for Kapanen unless we move Saad, which could happen to save cap, but idk. Lotta moving parts there. Value is probably okay but the logistics arent completely there

Hawks don't really have a spot for Kapanen though. I rather get Dermott and then save 4 million instead of trading for Brodin.

Yeah, no spot for Kap unless we trade Saad, which could just be a big cap saving move, but it would depend on the return for Saad

I think the leafs are more keen on holding onto Kappy over Johnsson and I'm using this as a way to dump the 3.4 from Johnsson's cap hit. Maybe Chicago flips him right away? I have no idea, I could see maybe a team like Ottawa getting involved as like a three way trade or maybe detroit. I just needed to move Johnsson out and I think Murphy is pretty close to exactly what they need for the right side D, he chews up 20minutes-ish a game and his advanced numbers say that he's very good in his own zone and just fine in opp's zone on top of the fact is PK numbers are pretty decent.

I'd not be against the idea of trading Kappy though i think Chicago would need to add then sadly.

Also has Murphy on the top pair and claims they are overpaying.

I put a ? because I don't know what is acceptable. What would be acceptable? all I've seen is Kappy for murphy which isn't the perfect answer either, give me an offer back?

My problem is that you basically admit Johnsson is a cap dump in one of you previous posts. The logic does not follow that you trade a Cap Dump for a first pairing RHD and then ask if you guys overpaid.

I created a post which you may or not be a fan of because it dumps Johnsson for a mid round pick, let’s toronto keep Kapanen while acquiring Murphy. Here’s the link to the ACGM. Murphy is a good right handed defenseman, and those don’t get moved very easily.

Edit: don’t mind the Buffalo side, can be any team willing to aquire Johnsson for a third and an underperforming prospect.

I was thinking that Dermott would be the ideal piece as he's a young and potential top 4 D. Also while I say Johnsson is a cap dump he is still a decent middle 6 forward. I looked at your and think we can all agree that the value is close of a kappy for murphy or a 1st for murphy. Would a Dermott/johnsson/Second rder Be better? I don't think the leafs are aiming to trade away a first round pick either and we're just speaking hypothetically anyways. I appreciate you making an attempt at a counter offer instead of just the "Chicago laughs and hangs up on you" or whatever.

So it's basically a Murphy and Copp for Dermot and Kerfoot. Leafs take on another 1m in cap. But really is the team any better? Especially since you are depending on Brooks to be in top 12...no proof of that and Robertson making the team. Keep Kerfoot and Dermot (and don't understand why is the fall guy on the defence) and spend that 1m another NHLerf.

Quality>Quantity

If you want Murphy you are going to have to give us a quality. I don’t think any trade with Johnsson is based around that.
