We do not have room for Vatanen and it would be a mistake to add anyone on D besides a first line LHD. De haan easily can play 2nd line and Carlsson is not only solid as a 3rd pairing but has 2nd line potential (he's young). Keith should be a 2nd liner and if not this coming season Hawks should work on a finding a #1 LHD next as he ages.

On the right side you forgot to add Mitchell, he's probably a lock to make the team. You can swing Murphy to the left side...he's played plenty on that side, and work Mitchell into the lineup.

Highly doubt Crow signs for $3M but never know. Doubt Kubalik signs for only $3M but if he does, will likely be a 1 year deal. Pass on Speza as Kampf and Carps do a great job plus Highmore has shown he belongs in the league.

Bottom line, there's no money to pay the bonus carryovers from this season which count against the cap, Hawks need to have more room which is another reason Vantanen doesn't fit.

In the next 2 years, MTL have Domi, Gallagher, Tatar, Danault, Petry, Armia, Lehkonen, KK, Poehling, Mete, Evans, Juulsen and Fleury to sign. For me 100% of them holds more value than either of the players you offered but objectively, maybe 80% of them holds more value. So why would we eat up 7M for a 3td pairing Dman and a 4th liner for a 4th round pick with that much key players to sign soon?

I'd switch the MTL and OTT deals. Smith is a familiar face and a veteran support guy. Not sure about Maata. His play as of late hasn't exactly warranted anything substantial. Maybe you guys can fill me in but I don't see him as much more than a bottom 2 D.
