I would be shocked if Miller cost you more than your 2020 second-round pick.

Interesting, I would love to grab Miller for a 2nd and use Kylington+ to get a top six right shot winger/centre

Miller only cost them a second and a fifth, and that was BEFORE he fell into the doghouse.

He worked his way out of the doghouse (that he was shouldn't have been in) and is one of their better dmen. Doubt they trade him for a pick.

I think they found out that he’s a great compliment to Dahlin the last 20 games of the season. Once he got in games consistently, he was one of the Sabres better Dmen and frankly one of their better players. My hope is he’s Dahlins long term answer that won’t cost near as much as a true #2 would due to being exactly the type of partner Dahlin needs to thrive.

If you completely shelter Miller he will look pretty good. People will look at those numbers and think that they mean that he will probably still do decent in a less sheltered role, instead of just looking at how he has done in a less sheltered role - which is completely terrible.

That would have be one massive + on Kylington to get a top-6 RW/C.

If you were to swap Miller for Montour in the trade above what would you add?

Yeah except he was terrible in a sheltered 3rd pairing role and played really well with Dahlin getting more minutes. Otherwise your argument is spot on.

Playing with Dahlin was a third pairing role. Dahlin and Miller were in the 25th and 26th percentile for QoC for the season. (Risto was 94th percentile, McCabe was 92nd, Joki was 65th, Montour was 58th). Dahlin and Miller were also 5th and 6th among those D in ES TOI. If you look at the games they played together you will see that the coaching staff did not allow them out against strong competition, and they were distantly 5/6 in D ice time in tight games, but sometimes played more often (but still very sheltered) when the Sabres were behind by a couple goals.

It is difficult to be more sheltered than Miller was when playing with Dahlin.

It is doubtful that any team will give up anything of value for Kylington - a 23 year old, low minute 3rd pairing LHD. He would never come close to getting into a single game for the Leafs.

1.Rielly, 2.Sandin, 3.Muzzin, 4.Kylington
One of Rielly or Sandin are going to go at contract time as the Leafs are paying a 34 year old delining Muzzin nearly 6 million dollars at that point, Rielly will go for his last big deal, Sandin will want to get paid out the nose because he is good. Kylington is stuck behind Giordano and Hanifin while Valimaki is hurt and likely the leading candidate for the third pairing when healthy, arguing that his minutes make him less of a player is an absolute joke. There's not a d man in that Leafs system that looks better than Kylington who is stuck behind a log jam in Calgary.

The Leafs have Rielly, Muzzin, Dermott, Sandin, Lehtonen and Rosen on the left. If Kylington is better than any of those 6 (maybe Rosen), it is not by much. Blabbing about what the Leafs' will do in two years when Rielly (and Sandin) are up for new contracts is irrelevant, as between now and then the Leafs will be getting rid of LHD and sure as hell not adding LHD - especially low quality ones like Kylington - and especially, especially they are not trading a good winger that many teams want for a mediocre LHD like Kylington.

As I said already, which you can't seem to grasp,

Rielly
Sandin
Muzzin
Kylington

That would be the left and Kylington has played on the right fairly well. Only D man on the roster younger than Kylington is Sandin. Lehtonen and Rosen shouldn't even be in the conversation with any of those guys. And Kapanen will not fetch nearly what you seem to think, complimentary piece to a line, that puts up maybe just over a half point a game. Perfect middle six guy on a line with a good C.

Kylington and a 1st (26-31) or a 2nd gets it done no problem if it were a great fit.

You are trying to over-sell Kylington like some Leafs' fans tried to over-sell Bracco. Kylington has very little value. Leafs' would not pay anything for him. Maybe if he was a sweetener thrown in to a real deal - but even then probably not. Kylington will have to pass through waivers next year and there is zero chance he would make the roster so if he had any value he would be picked up. Of course, he doesn't, so he wouldn't. Even when Gio was injured for 10 games he still played minimal #6 minutes.

You’re lost in this. It is what it is. Bracco is Curtis Lazar, could be good but just another forward in a watered down pool. Every year team look for good skating D, I bet you can’t guess what Kylingyon is?! At worst he is Tyson Barrie this year. At best he’s TJ Brodie Lite. He reminds me a ton of Brian Campbell
