goalie of the future? Hes 27, this is his prime that potentially will be wasted during a ducks soft rebuild effort.
If Ducks go full rebuild this is what they should do.

The thing is that they're not making any real moves to move forward in a rebuild besides drafting Zegras. So actually this might not be a bad trade

Why would they take it and run? I think they'd have to think hard about it. Gibson is an elite #1 G signed to a steal of a contract (compared to Vasilevsky, Price, Bobrovsky) at $6.4m for the next 7 years. That's amazing value, and he's young enough to still be in his prime when Anaheim are competitive again.

Anaheim don't need LHD right now, but Lindholm is an UFA in a couple of years which would line up perfectly with Byram's developmental timeline. They also have Dostal in the pipeline who looks really promising, and his timeline lines up well with Grubauer hitting UFA in 2021 so that makes sense too.

exactly, if they were going to reboot, this is how they do it, especially if they draft Askarov. They could be reset really fast and be loaded with young talent within 3 years.

What I mean is that since they're at least 5 years before contending (I'd argue possibly more) they'd have to (easily IMO) take this.

What do you think fair value would be?

I honestly don't know. Gibson is easily a top 5 goalie in the league, and certainly the best value at $6.4m for the next 7 years (compared to Bob/Price/Vasilevsky). So he has tonnes of value. I figure that the trade would need to involve Grubauer and Byram, and threw in a late 1st as well as I think Anaheim would need that to accept this.

don't know off the top of my head. too lazy to look for comparable. a starting goalie, a 1st and high-end prospect seems excessive though.

Plans probably consist of trading Zegras for a bunch of guys who are washed up and out of their prime, locking up Getzlaf and Perry to expensive long-term deals, and bringing back Selanne out of retirement

Hmm I'm not so sure they're that far away. They're an attractive destination and have tonnes of capspace, and if they sign Pietrangelo they would have a top 4 D of Lindholm/Pietrangelo/Fowler/Manson with Gibson in net, which is one of the best defensive platforms in the league. Up front they're a bit green, but they have some really nice looking pieces in Zegras, Comtois, etc, and will likely be adding a player like Raymond or Rossi at the draft, both of who will likely be NHL ready pretty quickly. They could turn things around fairly quickly, though that is obviously dependent on some UFA luck.

That said, if they aren't able to sign Pietrangelo then continuing their rebuild might make the most sense, and with that in mind getting a #1 LHD prospect for Gibson would be decent value.

And run the risk of cap overages that run into 2021/22 due to Makar's bonuses? I like Zadorov but paying a 7D $3m+ is really bad usage of cap.

Fwiw I also thought about including a trade for Tatar (eg. 2021 1st + 3rd + Beaucage) instead of resigning Namestnikov, and such a move would put us up against the cap as well. Such a move is better saved for the deadline though due to capspace/cap accrual.
