Because murray could be here for a while unlike crow
There are tons of reasons this is not good.
A.) Crow's a better goalie. Hands down. Literally the highest HDGSAA in the entire NHL last season and the Hawks defense stunk.
B.) Murray stunk last year. Why are the Hawks risking anything at all for a rebounding goalie?
C.) Murray hasn't been paid yet. He's coming off a team friendly deal and he was a MAJOR contributor to their two previous cup runs...he's not taking a discount and CERTAINLY not if he's traded.
D.) Crow's been established, paid, but been vocal about still wanting to play. He's not going to hometown MTL nor anywhere rebuilding. CHI is the best place for him and he'll cost less than Murray due to injury history...not last year, and I believe tandem is a huge reason why...but still injury history.
E.) The threat of Murray's arbitration scares the heck out of me. Goalies have been getting WAY too much money lately for only playing half a season. Elvis, Binnington, Koskinen played less games and have less cups....COMBINED...when they got their contracts. Murray outplayed Flower AND THEN flower got a 3 year $7M deal. I hear the fluff about Murray signing a $5M deal and I just don't see it....ESPECIALLY if he gets traded. I mean that's a middle finger if I've ever seen one. AND For the record, I wouldn't blame Murray either. Get your money while you can.
So let's recap....a worse goalie...that'll cost more...and we lose assets? It's just really poor asset management. The Hawks aren't required to solve their goalie issues on July 12th 2020. They have some time.
