Why do you think he’s worth more? He’s a 50-55 point center/wing that has scored 20 goals one time in his career. Maybe I’m wrong but seems like we are glorifying him. He’s also 25 that’s not that young. I expect more from a player if you are giving up this much and signing him for more than he’s worth.

I wouldn’t call Domi a winger, so far he hasn’t shown that he can be useful on the wing. Anyways, I don’t see how you could justify a low 1st and a low 3rd, when that’s less than what it would cost to get 1.25 seasons of Blake Coleman and 3 months of Kevin Hayes. And only slightly more than 3 months of Barclay Goodrow. Domi is easily better than all 3 of those players, he’s younger, and can easily be locked up for 5+ years, which is considerably better than the other 3.

Martin Erat was able to get Forsberg. Larson got Hall. 2 salary dumps an prospect + 1st got ROR. teams makes terrible trades all the time. Coleman was cheap and filled a hole Tampa needed. I don’t think 1 person thought those were good trades. Flat cap. If domi was signed for 3.5-4 million for the next 3 years his value would be better imo

This is the market though. These are 3 of the last 4 trades of forwards for 1st round picks. (Not including Miller, since that was obviously a different situation)

If you can find a trade that accurately shows how someone like Domi is worth a late 1st from the past few years, be my guest. And that means that there’s no pressure for the team to trade the player (like Trouba, Miller) since Montreal would be perfectly fine keeping Domi.

Stone .... he is worth way more than domi. He was moved for a 2nd a good prospect and a roster player.

Vincent Trocheck for Erik Haula, Lucas Wallmark, Eetu Luostarinen and Chase Priskie

There was pressure on Ottawa to move Stone or they’d lose him for nothing, and I don’t see how the Stone deal means Domi is worth a late 1st.

You also can’t really compare the Trocheck trade, since these are players that you can have opinions on, and we don’t know how much the Panthers like what they got, or why they were intent on trading Trocheck. Plus this return is certainly better than a late 1st and a late 3rd.

And you’re already at better value than the other trade. Plus they get Priskie and Wallmark.

Haula is a UFA and was a throw in to balance cap. Priskie isn’t anything so the Wallmark and Luotstarinen.

I’d say that a 40-50 point rental is certainly worth a 2nd. And if you don’t like the other 3, that’s your opinion, and I’m not saying I disagree, but Dale Tallon obviously wouldn’t make the trade if he didn’t like the pieces coming back.
