Ottawa has to reach the floor they wouldnt use a CBO even if it was available. Besides the player still gets paid and Melnyk has no interest in that

If Kesler is gonna be a lifer on LTIR, there is no reason for Ducks to CBO him. Actually under the CBA, teams can't buyout a player on LTIR.
Leafs need to shed cap (like a lotta teams), so Johnsson would be my choice as a CBO since the Leafs have a winger replacement. But Johnsson is tradeable with no cap returned, even if the return to the Leafs is modest.

Reach the floor? Ottawa is at 42m with just 9 players. They have just 19m to reach the floor with 14 roster spots., easily doable. Agree with you that there is no reason for Sens to buyout out anyone.

Johnsson could make a serious case.

In almost all Agms I see with Toronto, he’s being traded off.

Gee, after trading a 1st rounder to acquire Skjei. Gotta think Skjei is tradeable...some time will take the contract.

Agree with you, though I think some team would acquire Johnson even if it's for a 6th rounder..so then the Leafs wouldn't have a CBO. Then the Leafs might acquire another team CBO for a sweetener.

And he has a really good contract so that wouldnt make much sense. Its mostly due to left side being stacked in Toronto, not his contract.

Likely they could trade him to a team with a CBO for additional assets and save that team money. Like Edmonton for Neal and a couple of picks one being a 2nd or a prospect. Then Edmonton could buy out Russel and really shed cap space.

Because he's the most replaceable player on the Leafs who makes more than a million. It's not because he isn't valuable. He's a very good player on a team friendly deal. He's exactly the type of player Edmonton should want. Fast, young, capable of playing in the NHL and on a team friendly deal. TO's problem is they have too many good player and it means someone is going to have to go. TO has more solid lefty options than righties so trading Kapanen doesn't make as much sense. Personally I think Johnsson is better than Kapanen, he has more skill and more tools in the shed but we have Mikheyev, Robertson, Engval, Barbarov etc that can all play in the bottom or mid 6. This is why Johnsson gets traded all the time. Not because he isn't worth having but because it's a cap world and the Leafs have many players worth keeping around. If the Cap went up by 2-3 million this summer, this wouldn't be the case.

This is classic capfriendly logic, oh you want to move a player for reasons I don't care to consider? It's a cap dump he's trash I'll give you nothing for him. Everyone is saying the same thing so it's true now.

He's worth a lot more than a 6th rounder. He's a good player on a good contract. There are guys who don't produce much more than him, are older and people think they have more value than Johnsson. "But his knee injury" McDavid and Human both just came off knee injuries and they both had terrific seasons. But Johnsson won't because that makes the argument for him being worthless seem a little more reasonable. It doesn't Johnsson has values.

I cant see LA buying out Brown. There would probably be a mob of LA fans with pitchforks and torches coming at Rob Blake all over LA if he did that. I really can only see one person and that is Jeff Carter but he is currently rehabbing from his core muscle surgery he had a couple weeks ago(aka Sidney Crosby injury this season) Also there probably would have been one more person if Blake never made the Campbell & cliffy to Leafs. I would add Quick but not anymore.

Then why did you choose someone for most other teams?

Bruins dont have anyone CBO worthy either? They would rather just trade away john Moore to a team for a 6th or 7th rounder

My b dawg, but the point remains:
why do you think OP made some teams with no good CBO option CBO someone, but others (like the leafs) didnt

Bruins dont have a good CBO option, but he went with Moore anyway.

Not sure about what OP thought. Bruins dont have anybody that is justified to get CBOd. They had in Backes but they dont have now.

With a flat cap, and so many teams near the cap, a player like Johnsson (and there are lots of them) don't have much "trading" value . His "playing value" is certainly higher than 6th rounder. But with so few buyers , and these buyers have a choice of "dumps", sellers can't be choosy. Just getting these players off your hands for cap reasons is important, not the return in the trade .

There are a lot of teams that would benefit from him and have the space to add him. This whole, he's a camp dump because of flat cap ideal is not accurate I believe.

I just did a look at several teams, there are many that could use extra scoring and finding that for less than 4 million isn't going to be easy. There will be interest in Johnsson and it will be a much better return than a 6th. Especially if there is a CBO in the off season, if that happens, a team like Edmonton or New York Islanders or many other teams with more than 1 really bad contract on the books will look at Johnsson as a way to get rid of another bad contract and upgrade a position. The Islanders could move Boychuck and something rather sizeable as far as a pick or prospect for Johnsson and then TO can just buyout Boychuck. Or Andrew Ladd if Islander fans lose their mind about it. The Islanders need space to sign Barzal and their defence and eventually Dobson and others, their long term cap situation is easily the worst in the league and getting rid of one or 3 of their bad contracts is going to be paramount if they want to prevent cap Armageddon.
