Description
Colorado could use a stopgap 2nd pairing on the right side until Timmins/Byram prove themselves. Arizona need to open up capspace to resign Hall, so Hjalmarsson could be in play.

If Colorado acquires Hjalmarsson the idea would be to go into the season with Cole as 7D to give Byram 9 games to see if he is ready to stay up. If Byram does well then Cole can either continue as the 7D or simply be traded. Timmins would the first AHL call-up and replace outright Hjalmarsson in 2021.

Détails additionnels:
With Soderberg and Richardson heading to UFA in 2020, so Arizona could use a young bottom 6 C.

Not sure what value Hjalmarsson has, but something like a pick + young roster player + prospect seems reasonable for 1 year of Hjalmarsson.

Arizona are probably hoping that Jenik can be Stepan's replacement rather than a bottom 6er to replace Richardson/Soderberg. Besides, they aren't exactly blessed with a tonne of young depth players so Kamenev pickup for them. Jost also seems like the sort of "reclamation" that would interest Chayka.

Don’t need Hjalmarsson at all especially as a 1yr proposition.

If Timmins isn't ready yet then a 2nd pair RHD would be a welcome addition for 1 year to buy Timmins some more time.

No he wouldn’t, you have Graves and Makar, Johnson and Girard your top 4 is set going into the season. Cole imo is an ideal guy to pair with Byram, and you can get a 7th on the cheap or even just sit Lindholm in the box. Heck I’d just Zadorov a one year deal instead of Hjalmarsson who isn’t close to the same player he was in Chicago. I can tell you don’t have a lot of love for EJ, but the fact that he eats big minutes, kills penalties, pairs so well with Girard and is loved and respected in the dressing room makes him exponentially better than Hjalmarsson for the Avs.

I do like Johnson a lot, but I think it would be prudent to manage his minutes to get the best out of him. He's often been playing injured for large periods of time which has clearly influenced his play, and insulating him a bit as he gets older would be a pretty sensible way to get the best out of him for the duration of his contract.

Hjalmarsson and Johnson are the same age and Hjalmarsson has played 9 less games. EJ’s minutes are going to be reduced by the evolution of Makar, Byram and Graves there is no need use assets or cap space on Hjalmarsson when you already have Johnson AND Cole on the roster who have demonstrably better possession stats (particularly Cole) and in the case of Cole someone who takes significantly more defensive zone starts.

Pretty much been summed up already but i think the only way we'd go after him is if neither timmins or byram is ready yet and we have some injuries. Maybe a deadline deal next season but for less than what is offered here. Just over crowding the blue line this early

I think Hjalmarsson at the deadline would fetch something similar to this. A 2nd + depth roster player + B prospect, or 2nd + 3rd.
