Its a shame Primeau is blocked for 6 more years by your soon to be 33 year old goalie making 10.5 million to be a barely above league average starting goalie.

Outside of an injury to Price, you'll never know what you have in primeau

Cant disagree more about that. A goaltender reach is full maturity at about 24-25. Look at Sorokin (24) Shesterkin (24) and Merzlikins (26), three top prospect goaltender about to start or just started their career.
Primeau is only 20 so he can grow and learn for another 4-5 years as a starter in the AHL or as a backup. He will learn behind a great goaltender with a similar style and wont be rushed in anything, especially with a poor defensive team in front of him. By that time Price will be 37-38 with not much left to his contract. He could be traded with retention, accept a backup job if he continue to decline or even retired. If Primeau is really the next big thing in MTL, dont worry about his chance of making it, whoever is on charge by then will fond a way to give him what he deserve.

Primeau becomes waiver eligible in 2023-24 or whenever he plays 80 NHL games. And if he’s played 80 NHL games, he’s obviously not going back to the AHL.

Meno : Josh Brook have top4 potential in him, he just need a couple of season in the AHL. Fleury is more NHL ready but will never be a top4, maybe a good #5 IMO

SevenLeg, I don’t disagree, Norlinder have a high potential, Ylönen have a top6 potential, Poehling could be a good middle six C, thoses 3 are close if they all reach their respective ceiling

Kotkaniemi15, IMO you place Fleury too high, like I said #5 is the best I can see him. But good Top10 too

Makes sense. I still think that Fleury has more in him. He’ll never be anything special offensively, but I think he can be a solid 2nd pairing defenseman. He’s already a 3rd pairing defenseman now, and I see a lot of room to grow for him.
