I'd like to remind everybody that the 2021 second could turn into a 2022 second as a result of the Clifford deal, which is one of the reasons why I'd rather have the 2020 second in any event.

If I'm a Ducks fan, I wouldn't do this. Johnsson was on pace for only 15 goals ($3.4M cap hit) and coming off a big knee injury resulting in surgery. If I'm the Ducks, I would do Kap + Lillypad.

They could probably guarantee that the pick is in 2021. Just stipulate in the negotiations that if Toronto's pick transfer's to LA (aka they re-sign Clifford) that there would be a significant penalty (the pick becomes the Leafs 2021 1st or something).

Or if they really wanted to keep Clifford they could *wink wink, nudge nudge* with the Ducks and Clifford that he'll sign in Anaheim and then get traded back to Toronto in this deal. Not sure if there is anything in place to prevent that.

Leafs likely don't even consider that.

LOL okay good because we are completely happy with Murphy and pretty sure Hawks wouldn't do Kap straight up for Murphy...a 5th rounder with Kap would be close. I like Kap but Leafs fans overvalue him.

Kap is over 0.5ppg player over the last 2 seasons playing 3rd line minutes in a defensive role/penalty kill and has a positive giveaway/takeaway ratio with lots of speed and grit. We aren't overvaluing him, hes the type of player that helps a team win a cup meanwhile Murphy had his best season this year at 27 cause he was thrown into a top role due to injuries

Oh please, last season Kap played plenty minutes in the top 6. This season, not playing in the top 6, he was on pace for a whooping 15 goals in a 82 game season. I like Kap, but he overskates a ton, still needs better puck control, and still makes some bad passes. He's got upside for sure, but he's overvalued. Manson straight up for kap? c'mon

The basis is interesting. But I would add a depth player with leadership going to Toronto, like Rowney idk.

Said Murphy not Manson straight up and Kap isn't necessarily a skill guy, sure his goal total was down this year but he was on the 3rd line with rotating linemates all season long. He hits, plays good defense, backchecks and can play on a teams PK1 which is huge. If the Leafs moved Nylander or Marner he'd also easily slide into the top 6 and be productive with more minutes. Murphy is barely an average RD, no better than Holl

Murphy is barely an average RD? WOW you've got to be kidding. Murphy is a top 4 guy on 20 out of 30 teams and a top liner on Leafs all day long over Holl. I take it you're a young Leafs fan that has never known what a great defensive looks like and the importance of one.
