The last thing the Sabres need is another bottom pair defenseman.

Yeah it's obvious that if DAL wants Nylander they'd have to pay a premium price.

yep that is true in my opinion its fine as leafs get some depth pieces a solid RD partner for Rielly, and if the leafs do some tinkering they can replace nylander with someone in the ufa market. As I would like to see jason robertson with the marlies for a bit till we see he is just to good for the AHL

He did play a few games for the Stars NHL team and he was great. I remember his excellent pass that ended Seguin's 17 game no-goal drought. He has great playmaking skills. Considering his brother's goal scoring abilities, I think there could be a terrific duo for the Leafs if they get a good C to play with. Robertson-Tavares-Robertson could be a lethal trio in a couple of years.

the main issue is the leafs are stacked with wings Kerfoot since Faksa will take 3c (unless he goes), Mikeyv, Engvall, Hyman, Barbanov, etc. robertson gets in, 4th line would be his spot as the roster would probs be like. Johnsson is probs gone no matter what so I excluded him as he and dermott are probs gone in a package for picks

Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Kerfoot (unless traded) - Matthews- Kapenan
Mikeyv - Faksa - Barbanov
Robertson - Spezza - Engvall

However there is a solution but it would mean moving on from kerfoot. This could be risky cause at times kerfoot has been a solid LW with tavares and he could bounce back to 40 points while playing with matthews. sure he can take Barbanov's spot if he does not work out but I feel barbanov and Mikeyv on the same line will have amazing chemistry. if keefe had robertson playing on the 4th line most of the time. So its tricky on what to do with him. My suggestion would be to bring him up in febuary after the trade deadline. That way if Dubas did trade kerfoot than robertson can get some top minutes with Matthews.

sure he can take Barbanov's place if he does not work out but I feel it could hurt his development if Dubas did that. Now there is the option of trading kerfoot but I dont know if dubas will do that.

If that trade went through I'd use the lines as such:
Hyman-Matthews-Marner
J.Robertson-Tavares-N.Robertson
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Kapanen
Engvall-Faksa-Barabanov

Rielly-Klingberg
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Dermott

Andersen-Campbell

Reserve F: Spezza, Gauthier
Reserve D: Marincin

This'd require Mango to be traded for picks. Also if the Robertson duo doesn't work, then one or both of them will be heading to Marlies.

I could see that but 1 thing is Nick Robertson probs is going to a euro league as most feel he is just not NHL ready and the main issue is he is to young to be with the marlies. I dont know the ECHL rules so maybe he could go with the growlers but I doubt that. If the leafs move on from kerfoot I could see the following. Oh and dermott is probs gone as Honka will be the replacement

Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Robertson J. - Matthews - Kapenan
Mikeyv - Faksa - Barbanov
Engvall - Spezza - Korshkov/Bracco/Agostino

I wouldn’t be opposed to taking an Oleksiak at all but it would in a package deal for another player if I were to shake up the defense, I would not trade assets to get Oleksiak alone.

Not really as nylander and liligren won't come cheap and they get a 2nd deals fair as they will have cap space to sign either Krug, pitrangelo, Barrie, etc. Plus if Toronto trades nylander after they pay his bonus that deal is a steal as they will only have to pay 2.5mill

Klingberg is the best player in this trade though, Radek Faksa is a very solid shutdown center. Robertson is a very good prospect much like Liligren and you want them to give up another prospect plus a 1st round pick.

Come on Kapanen isn’t that good, and Liligren is still unproven. The more I look at it the more ridiculously one sided it is.

Where does kapenan fit in this lul. Nylander is a 30+ goal scorer and at 24 years old he is only going to get better. Dallas main issue isn't defense it's scoring goals. Nylander should easily help get this team scoring again. In general nylander is a steal for a lot of teams as he is making 6.9mill and potentially can score 30-50 goals a season. Faksa is ok but 20 points not good as Dallas needs more offense, honka has little to no value rn and wants out, klingberg ain't the best player in this trade, and Robertson is still not proven. With the Stars getting liligren and a 2nd back the deal is fair as the Stars can sign one of the many RHD ufas who can easily replace klingberg.

In general liligren and malgin with the 4th gets - Robertson, Faksa, and honka
And nylander and the 2nd get - klingberg and the 1st

That’s hilarious, I thought we were talking about Kapanen there for a minute. My bad, either way I’d say Klingberg and Nylander would be a straight up swap 1-1

I think one suggestion would maybe be toronto adds another 2nd or a 3rd to get the 1st. And takes out the 4th. So in a sense 2 2nd or a 2nd and 3rd for the 1st and I think the deal is evened out better

If we become a first round exit this year I wouldn't mind doing this
Klingberg is a really cheap RH defenseman who is mainly offensive but he is just to cheap to pass on
I would definitely not hesitate to do this deal

Interesting deal. Nylander's four years and Klingberg two years are the only two known. Even Faska could be a UFA in two years. Pretty fair value trade, which might favour the Leafs somewhat.
Take out the picks(which favour the Leafs), and give the Leaf Oleksiaks, might benefit both team, instead of the Sabre deal

the deal is actually fair my only suggestion would be for the toronto to ditch the 4th trade someone like johnsson or dermott out for some other picks than add one of the acquired 3rd picks. As a 2nd and third would be more fair for acquiring a first then a 2nd and 4th
