Description
Please just look at this as a starting point. I'm not saying any of this can happen as I've laid it out, but really want to discuss possibilities of Leafs improving defence corps dramatically. I went complicated for St.L deal, but it didn't feel like an impossibility. The multiple FA signings at league minimum would also be a stretch.... I know this. The roster is also a forward and defenseman short with no cap space left. Things are so tight capwise in Toronto.

Détails additionnels:
St.L also includes Alex Pieterangelo after signing him to 8 year $72 million deal and retain $2 million per year. Overall St.L saves $2 million in cap space with Faulk component.
STL
  1. Johnsson, Andreas
  2. Liljegren, Timothy
Détails additionnels:
Toronto would buyout Faulk (assuming that pandemic makes NHL decide to implement some form of buyout to compensate for loss of revenue and therefore no increase in salary cap). Faulk could then resign with St.L at $2.5 million for 7 years and actually be making more money in the overall picture. That would lower St.L cap hit by $4 million so absorb some of Pieterangelo contract they trade to Toronto and they get something fairly tangible instead of losing Pieterangelo for nothing.

Not sure where to begin here. I guess the biggest question is, why would the Leafs give up any pieces when they are clearly going to get a shot at signing him, and have something of a home field advantage minus the fact their cap is significantly messed up at the moment?

I suggest you make your comments more polite and give real constructive criticism, so you can actually have a real hockey conversation.

There would be zero possibility the Leafs can fit $9 million that Pieterangelo is likely to command. $7 million would be a stretch with their cap situation. The pieces they send to St.L are to get them to even play with Toronto.

Thanks for your contribution. It really helped in creating a discussion. Do you have reasons it is "the dumbest thing you've read all year"? Maybe you've only read ultra intelligent genius level material until now? I already mentioned there were stretches. I'm looking for elaboration.

There isn't much about this that I support to be honest.

Pesce is far too valuable to the Canes to consider moving mim for anything less than a Nylander(esq) kind of trade. That being said... too many valuable assets changing hands there from a Leafs perspective.

I don't see Robertson as an NHLer next season.

I have ZERO interest in Gal-Trade-Me-Every-Year-Yuk.

AP gets a lot more than that on the open market. (I don't think he wants to be in TO anyways).

Yeah.... pretty much pass on all of this.

Thanks for adding. You might be right about Carolina's thoughts. I think Toronto will need to part with just about everyone I've suggested though if they have any hope of truly improving their defense group. I also have virtually no interest in Galchenyuk. On a 1 year league minimum prove it contract I have some interest. Do you really think Pieterangelo will get more $9 million in this economic uncertainty that is sure to come???

Most likely, he will come in around 10 million I would guess on a deal that is less than max term. What you have here is too complicated IMO. Nobody is going to bend over backwards to help the Leafs in any way shape or form.

In addition... I just think that there will be better options out there for AP, including staying in St. Louis which is where I get the feeling that he wants to be.

Carolina wouldn't do Pesce for Nylander straight across. Why would they accept 4 lesser players making more money overall, and then ADD a player? This is silly.

I think Carolina would pounce on Pesce for Nylander. You can think what you want though. Maybe you know Don Waddell???

During the last couple of seasons and offseasons, Pesce for Nylander rumors were flying everywhere, and the consistent thread was that Carolina said no because they felt Nylander was not enough. They valued Pesce's defensive play and bargain of a contract moreso than they did Nylander. But hey, I'm sure you know better than everyone else
