The Leafs actually have been one of the better teams in the NHL since Sheldon Keefe took over as coach and have had a better record than the Oilers for the last 4 years. You and I both know that McDavid is a really poor loser and he is not going to waste away his best years for ever if the Oilers do not get their act together fast and will simply request a trade to Toronto.

You do know not everyone wants to play for Toronto lmao this is hilarious

You are correct in that it is a bad trade but only a bad trade for the Leafs as not a chance that they will ever trade Marner. In all likihood, Marner is probably a major reason why McDavid would request a trade to Toronto.

McDavid is not everyone. He is simply the second best player in the world after Sydney Crosby and grew up in Toronto as a Leafs fan and wants to return to actually have a serious chance at winning a Stanley Cup.

Here’s what I don’t really understand about this idea. Leafs fans will say mcdavid loves Toronto and will get sick of losing in Toronto. Oilers fans are just thoroughly convinced he doesn’t like the spotlight nor the scrutiny of Toronto and some believe if he leaves he would go to the states.

Honestly, outside opinion from the leafs oilers debate: I can see him going to Toronto when his contract is up. However, I see it as enjoying Toronto and being around family and friends. As for winning, I’ll just say that’s not happening. Due respect, but this leafs team can’t make it out of a first round. Say you did this trade, for the sake of argument, this team in its current could never compete with Boston and Tampa. Toronto just isn’t a complete team like the other two. Mcdavid makes teams great, but as Edmonton shows, he can’t do it alone.

Leafs are doing no better then the oilers so that’s hilarious and just because someone is from Toronto doesn’t mean they want to play for them lmao like how tf would you know

If you'd love kicking a teams butt and enjoy talking about it openly to the media, would you go sign with the team after trash talking about the team? So yeah, McD isn't going anywhere

McDavid has a monster ego so yes he would actually have no problem playing in Toronto which is the largest hockey market in the world. He loves playing in Toronto and would get to play 41 home games a year in Toronto in front of family and friends and play on a team with a real chance to win a Stanley Cup.

I guess you haven't seen the post game interview he did after he turned Rielly inside out and flipped him right around and scored a nasty goal and then told the media that it's fun going there, but it's "ALSO" fun to leave, put some thought into that, it's also fun to leave, sounds like the guys doesn't want to play for Toronto

McDavid is too valuable to the entire NHL to remain playing in Edmonton his entire career and think he too will want to play in a major market like Toronto, NewYork or Los Angles in the future and still think he would love to play in Toronto. He would also probably make $10,000,000 a year in endorsements if he played in Toronto.

Do not think Dermott is going anywhere but signing a new contract with the Leafs and his time to shine is just starting.

Yes I agree. I wouldn't trade Dermott I'd give him another year at least.

I think there's a chance they trade Marner for the right price. McDavid would probably want to come to Toronto because his friends and family live here.

Toronto has a lot more to offer than Edmonton depth wise.

Ya, the Leafs have road games so they have to leave Toronto... What's your point.

If it's based on going to Toronto and leaving Toronto the Leafs are the obvious choice.

First you were saying McDavid would want to go to Toronto because friends and family, now its due to money? But in any case, I'd like you to explain how McDavid could get $10M in endorsement just by playing for the Leafs, because as far as I can see, there's no evidence for such a claim.

1) McDavid, at $4.5M annually, already makes more in endorsements than Marner + Matthews combined
2) McDavid's biggest earner, his equipment deal with CCM (based in Montreal, QC), runs through 2023, so that figure can't change until then
3) In fact all of McDavid's major sponsors are national / international, so moving to Toronto wouldn't create more value to them:
- Adidas, Herzogenaurach, Germany. Market: Global
- CIBC, Toronto, ON. Market: mostly Canada but also USA and Caribbean.
- BioSteel, Toronto, ON. Market: North America
- Canadian Tire, Toronto, ON. Market: Canada
- Rogers Communications, Toronto, ON. Market: Canada
- Electronic Arts, Redwood City, CA, USA. Market: Global

I don't see any Edmonton-specific companies on this list that would "upgrade" if he moved to a larger market. McDavid is already an internationally recognized superstar, relocating to Toronto wouldn't change or expand his reach at all.

He had no other choice but to maximize his contract while in Edmonton until he hits UFA status. No different than Austin Matthew's contract with the Leafs.

Correct me if im wrong. Matthew's only signed a 5 years contract and McDavid the one that wants to get back to Toronto so bad signed an 8 year deal to play in Edmonton. I would say Matthew's would want out of Toronto more that McDavid wants out of Edmonton.
