If each team is awarded a buyout, why would the Devils not just buyout PK?

They’ll buyout Schneider... contract is much worse and longer. The difference is, that NJD can afford sub and big contract with all the ELC they have on payroll. The only way a cap dump trade works is if the other team needs the cap room. ie Tampa, Washington, Chicago and possibly a Vegas or a St. Louis.

Exactly what I was thinking. That and the fact that Johnsson and Liljegren I don't think returns Severson so assuming the poster was saying PK is a big negative value in which case CBJ would have to be up against the cap.

Why would the Nhl allow such thing? They have allowed it before to fix the long term contract issues they resolved in the lock out( when they put a max 8 years contract length). Now team who have badly managed their cap will not be excused.

Probably. Also it’s New Jersey, not Columbus. Columbus’s cap dump is Dubinsky making just over 5.8 and can be placed on LTIR if needed.

Subban and Schneider both have two years remaining on their contracts beyond the 19-20 season. Schneider is owed 12m, all in base salary. Subban is owed 16m, with 12m being signing bonuses that can't be partially written off.

Anyway well take either Schneider or Subban. Doesn't really matter

It's a very possible scenario if a compliance buyout is awarded,Yes NJ would buyout Schneider and with the fact PK is owed a significant amount of salary and bonus sending Lilly and Johnsson to aquire Severson and cover the PK buyout is pretty fair
