leafs used this line roster with 11 forwards and 7 defenders in there lastest win over the panthers and during the 6-2 loss to blackhawks but it didnt work that night lol especially losing 6-2, but the idea could translate with the right players doing the right job intended for them
leafs generally take on average just over 6mins per game in penalty minutes, and that would be the only time i would bring out the 4 th line to kill penalties as there is generally only 2 forwards on anyways, fred is great at winning face offs in def zone and with very good pk killers could be a good pk line, i would hate to see someone more needed to this team like marner to be sidelined because he has taken a puck to his face...due to hes on the PK, i really dont understand why you would risk one of your top guys getting hurt when it is alot easier to find replacements for 4th liners

also with this 11-7 line roster it can give the defense much needed cause to work harder as if someone lacking or not playing up to standard korshkov could drop on 4th line and go back to 12 forwards as no one would want to be dropped as a healthy scratch so may play harder than usual pushing

all top 3 lines would on average get 18 mins TOI, all 3 lines have quality scoring down the middle, speed, play making and a grinder to do all the heavy forechecking needed on each 3 lines

i know i havent signed a top 4 right sided defensemen which they need but traded for a player who could compliment the more offensive d-men like reilly and sandin with there more stay at home defense style of play and also brings more size and toughness they need, and with the seattle draft next year i would expose either 2 of 3 RD were 1 would be lost in the expansion thats were liljegren takes over the RD position either 2nd or 3rd line fulltime

i know people might say nylander is not a true centre but he can play it hes proven that in the past, hes one of the best FOW on the leafs roster and i know he has his defensive problems but he would be paired with 2 big heavy good defensive minded forwards

i understand many people are sceptical but this isa place to build on ideas
