I'd offer whatever it took whether it be trade or FA but I obviously have a huge bias. That's my problem when I try to make ACGMs for him because I start thinking about him and Rielly (a paring I've wanted to see since before he was drafted) and value and evaluation go out the door, but can you blame me? I'd move mountains to be able to pair him and Rielly up.

No this is a trade I proposed in a thread recently. Not trying to plagiarize you lol. To be honest I like your trade better but I think the devils decline. If they are moving servers in they will need D in return. The devils could use an upgrade on both sides. Think that makes them a good trade partner for the leafs.

You know how much I like Johnsson and I've been advocating for Dermott to leaf fans because I don't think he's a finished product but I would 💯 do this trade as currently constructed. The only thing I'd do if I were Dubas is see if we could either give up a little less or ask for a little more in return, but I would do this deal if this is what it took. Yes of course... Teams will be just trading for a 3.4m X 3 year winger. Apparently Johnsson will be ready for the playoffs..well if the Leafs make it. The reason Johnsson might be traded is so the Leafs can get cap to get a Dman. There are so many teams near the cap, that trading a guy like Johnsson will be damn near impossible to trade without getting equal cap back. So if the Leafs let's say need Johnsson 3.4m cap relief and he's replaced at wing with a 1m player...that's 2.4m cap relief...The return the Leafs just want future pick might be just a third rounder. Just not a market for a player like him for picks...and the Leafs will be in steep competition to with all those other cap strapped teams.

Johnsson is out for 6 months... he can still be traded, would imagine leafs would need to send a conditional pick on how many games he plays next season.

Let's say the Leafs needed cap to complete their need makeover next summer and Johnsson was the odd man out. If all you could get was 7th rounder without getting cap back in a trade, the Leafs would have to take that deal.

Well they wouldn’t have to take it. They could move kerfoot get more savings and more back if his value is perceived higher. Mango had a rough year but he is a good winger on a fair deal.

I kinda think that's the way it is in a cap league. If a team needs cap space and there are few buyers...the price is gonna be lowered. The Marleau trade...yea a different situation showed the price the Leafs had to pay for a 6.25m non performing cap hit. Gonna be interesting how/if Tampa rids themselves of some M NTC cap or cap in general if they want to sign and retain their RFAs.

Leafs poor cap management? Generally the Leafs have few bad cap hits, though I will always maintain, that the "big young forwards" were overpaid at time of signing. Plus the never ending 1.2m Kessel retention.
