Blues decline and petition for LeBrun to be fired from the Athletic.

Armstrong didn't give up Kyrou for 5 years of ROR, why would he do it for less than 5 months of Kreider?

Why is a developing 21-yr old in and out of the lineup of the best team in the Western Conference, defending champs? Because our games actually mean something and it's hard to fit development in with that some times, especially when you have an extremely old school coach and a front office that views development as a 5-year process.

ok so why not let him flourish under someone who needs young players to fit into there system. Why don't the blues want Kreider who would step right in and create an immediate impact to an already dominate team? he will help them win in the post season and they will have a very very good chance at winning another cup. it seems like a no brainer.

    1. No team should be giving up their best prospect AND a first rd pick for a rental, just based on the precedents at the TDL

    2. You have to be able to develop players to remain effective in a cap league. Kreider makes us better short term but there is no money to keep him around and with money so tight, you need guys on ELCs to contribute. Our GM has said over and over again that he doesn't prefer rentals unless it's a necessity. Kreider would be our 4th-or 5th-best forward, not exactly the piece to set us over the top (like a Mark Stone or Taylor Hall).

No salt, just trying to figure out the reality of the situation. With all the attention Kreider is getting, I would think the Blues might offer their 2020 1st and a guy like Toropchenko/Walman/etc. I can't see them giving up Kyrou/Perunovich/Kostin/Alexandrov because the system is just too thin. If that isn't enough to get Kreider, they'll find someone cheaper or roll with what they have.

And I hiiiighly doubt they'd even be willing to part with the 2020 1st. They're certainly not trading both those assets for three months of Kreider.

Could you copy/paste here what exactly Lebrun said in his piece? I'm curious to see how he displayed it. (I'm to cheap to get the Athletic Sticking Out Tongue )

I kind of feel he wouldn't have wrote it as "I personally think Krieder is worth a 1st and a Kyrou and that's what Armstrong has to give up" but people are kind of interpreting it as that. If he did say like that, I think he's pretty much just using Gorton's initial offer to Armstrong as the expectation but that is just a feeler offer and Lebrun is just going on that as if he were to start saying "Yeah Gorton is out of his mind if he thinks he's getting Kyrou" he'd be pissing on some ppl's shoes.

Guys like Lebrun have those special privileged insider jobs because GM's allow it, otherwise they are just regular reporters. Any type of info that a guy like Lebrun will say as his own is being fed to him from somewhere. Armstrong can't be upset with Lebrun by stating something he already knows Gorton told him in their talks. Gorton can't be mad at Lebrun for stating the price to get Kreider from his perspective either.

If some beat writer says trade Pietrangelo for a 1st and a cap dump, who cares? He has no relationship to the situation other than his reporter privileges. If Lebrun starts yapping negatively all of a sudden he's not an insider anymore is he? Believe me, he as well as the other insiders tend to use their words ever so carefully because their livelihood depends on it.

    Here's some: https://theathletic.com/1578696/2020/02/03/lebrun-six-specific-trade-deadline-moves-that-make-a-lot-of-sense/

"Teams don’t spend first-round picks at the deadline like they’re candy anymore. But here’s what I do know so far: Eight teams have informed the Rangers they’ve got Kreider at the top of their wish list. And the Rangers are looking for at least the return they got on Kevin Hayes a year ago at the deadline. The Jets gave up a first-round pick and winger Brendan Lemieux for renting out pending UFA Hayes. Now, Hayes is a centre, Kreider is a winger. But Kreider currently is the top of the rental class."

"So here I’ve put on my matchmaker hat. Based on some plausible scenarios, here’s a six-pack of trades that would make sense from my perspective.... New York Rangers trade Chris Kreider to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 2020 first-round pick and RW Jordan Kyrou. (Rangers retain 50 percent..."

He admits that Hayes being a center would raise his rental value vs if he was a winger; the part that bothers me is that he says "Kreider is the top of the rental class", and then proceeds to come up with a value that is unprecedented in any recent rental trade. I understand there is /some/ supply-demand effect, but just because the rental market is weak this deadline doesn't mean that the bidding war will force a team to lose their best prospect and unconditional first rounder. If you're a GM and you pay for what's out there on a scale relative to the market instead of a scale relative to the value added to your team, you're gonna have a bad time.

Thanks. its pretty much as I expected.

I actually don't disagree with what he said, although I still wouldn't do the trade from a STL POV. Remember, he's literally stating that multiple teams have put him at the top of their lists meaning he's the player they are most willing to start a bidding war over if they want to. Based on those parameters.

As for the actual value, I think you are using the terminology unconditional as if it holds much value when the Blues are near the top of the league and considered to be the favorite for the cup again. That pick based on chances of winning the cup this year will be anywhere from 28th-31st. Last year's pick for the Hayes deal ended up being 20th overall. That's a huge difference considering what we know about how much it costs to move up in the draft, once again just looking at it from that point of view.

When it comes to prospects, its anyone's guess, so its basically preference at that point. Some people value some prospects higher than others. No wrong or right answers there, only difference of opinions.

One last thing, he is also saying that the Rangers retain 50% of the cap hit. NYR did not retain anything on the Hayes deal. So while the fact that Hayes is a C and Kreider is true, there are other factors that can be said make up for the difference.

Once again not saying STL should do it. I personally would just run with the current team they have unless a bargain bin pickup comes up. But I think people are getting a little over annoyed over something that isn't even that far off based on the facts we know about other teams. Whether STL accepts the proposed Lebrun offer is completely up to them but that is the offer to accept or not.
