The retention is good to get Kase as far as the cap is concerned if Tarasenko came back before the end of the season. It's possible though, probable even, that he doesn't, meaning that we wouldn't have to require the Ducks to retain salary on Kase with Tarasenko on LTIR till the playoffs. Not cool that Tarasneko would be out longer, but cool in the sense that it probably lessens the package we have to send.
A big problem with acquiring Kase is that he's a right shot, which we have a ton of in both quantity and quality. Tarasenko, Perron and Sundqvist are all right shots, with Kyrou up as well and looks to be staying up, and as far as I know Kase doesn't have much experience with the left. The left is the side we're weak on, with no one besides Schwartz as a surefire Top-6 guy right now and Blais and Sanford are big question marks as far as if they'll ever develop that far. Perron can play left but seems to be better on the right yeah? Unless we're confident Kase can make a full-time transition to LW, it's hard to see logistically how he fits on the roster both now and longer term. And considering he's had a down year idk about throwing him on a top six role on his off side on a much better team is good for a guy who is clearly still developing. Weirder things have happened tho I suppose, and if that's the trade it's not a bad gamble.
