Thorton is a very solid depth piece with a physical presence and lots of playoff experience. If he waives, Sharks wpuld likely be willi g to retain and he will return much better than and AHLer, a depth piece and a 6th

We paid a second for Plecanec and Boyle each a few years ago. Thornton should cost the same or more.

I have watched him a few times this year and his motor is really running out of gas. Have also seen him look really frustrated on ice so I am not sure if he still carries any real value but would be interested in what others on CapFriendly think he is worth on trade market.

I think you are right that he is worth atleast a 3rd round pick as you and I both know he could still be a force on a second line powerplay for the Leafs even if he is running out of gas. The guy is still a tremendous set up player on a power play.

Can not risk giving up a second round pick in this years draft as Leafs need to hold on to it as they proved last year that they can hit home runs like Nick Robertson in the second round.

No thanks to gramps. The league has gotten younger and this would be a backwards move. If acquiring a physical player is the goal then there's younger options out there.

Why would he go to TML when he could just go back to BOS and make it past the first round

Not really sure how acquiring a 1 year rental with tons of playoff experience is a backwards move. The leafs adding Thorton to their line up is the equivalent of Boston having Chara in theirs. Both are monsters in the playoffs. If the league getting younger is your reason for ot picki g up a solid depth leader then explain how your younger team constantly looses to an old team like Boston year after year.

Gotta improve from within. That and the experience the young players are/have been getting counts for something. Anyway Thornton is just too old for my liking. He's not the only player with his skill set...there's others to look into.

Just because they don't want to spend something doesn't mean the other team won't want it

Because Boston dumped him. They're trading him mid season gives him a unique accomplishment. He is the only player in league history to win the Hart playing on two teams that year.

Interesting comments as to my perspective Thornton has always been known as a perennial playoff choker

If the Leafs talk to SJ it will likely involve Marleau and Thornton. I have been fans of those two their entire careers. Two hall of famers for sure that deserve one more shot at a title. It would probably give the leafs room a huge boost which means something however does it really make the Leafs a better team ? Maybe Marleau Thornton spezza 4th line is better then what we currently have ? This would be a deal the Leafs need to be careful of. It may win the hearts of fans who might love the idea but most certainly the leafs would be giving up controlled assets for no controlled assets further diminishing the future depth of the hockey club.
