Description

Will likely be viewed as a bigtime overpay from Av's....but Jost is a 4th liner currently. Bowers still prospect and Ranta a 4th round prospect. The 1st round pick would(in Av's mind) be end of 1st round so not a huge blow.

Av's rank 21st in PP and 20th in PK. You would hope Kreider would help get the PP into top 15....and Fast is very good on PK which would be instrumental in playoffs.

When broken down you can say:
Kreider for Bowers, Ranta, 1st
Fast for Jost

If deemed unfair the Rags could add a pick....the Krider retention could also allow Av's to potentially get some goalie help since they will have $3.5mm in space under this scenario

and 'yikes'...dont you think the value of Kreider and Fast for this years playoff run is alot more than the value of a 4th liner, a prospect in the A and a 19 year old at UMinn? I understand it looks like alot....but all 3 of those guys are expendable for this years playoff run and beyond.

Yeah the colorado powerplay has been disappointing this season, but i don't think it's as much the personal on the powerplay as it is the never changing single play we run. Mack Rants Landy Makar and Kadri is a pretty stacked powerplay, they just need to try a different play once in a while.

As for the trade i don't see them emptying the prospect cupboard for a couple rentals. I could see Jost and Krieder being part of a deal with colorado adding but i don't think they'll add another roster forward without losing someone form the current roster to exchange spots.

Kreider getting a first will be lucky , Toffoli is going for like a 2nd and is cheaper and can do the same job cheaper

Taylor Hall had 50% retention and got back Merkley(1st round, 30 overall), Bahl(2nd round, 55 overall), Schnarr(3rd round, 75 overall), 2020 1st and a 2021 3rd that can convert to a 1st if Hall resigns and wins a playoff round.

In this scenario, Kreider (with bascially 50% retention) AND Fast would net Jost(1st round, 10 overall), Bowers(1st round, 28 overall), Ranta(3rd round, 78 overall) and a 1st.

I get it appears as a huge overpay, but if the Avs are 'going for it' this year it may be something to think of. Obviously Toffoli cheaper.
