Krug will get at least 7.5 million and it'll take more than a third rounder to move that Backes contract

Krug has said he will take a discount, and since signing Bergeron's deal Boston has never signed someone to a bigger deal then his. That's not a coincidence and Krug won't be taking a penney more the Bergeron, and it will take more then a third, hence why Khulman is in the deal.

Says who? Leaf fans? Lol.

Steve Mason was a swiss cheese goalie with a 4.1m cap hit, was dumped with Armia, a 4th and 7th for a career minor leaguer.

Backes/Moore/3rd for Michael Carcone. Sens get some help staying above the cap floor get a pick and usable d man for nothing.

Not trading Heinen to sign Kassian, there is 4 million in cap space there if they wanted to keep Heinen. But he is expiring after the season, and doesn't play to his full potential on the right side, Boston has cheaper options for 3RW, and IMO he would be their 4th LW behind Marchand-Debrusk and Bjork.

The cap has been rising since Bergeron signed his deal. Signing at 7.5 is a discount considering he should get around 8, but no way he takes less than 7. Kuhlman is nothing Detroit would get too excited about.

Why would Ottawa take both those contracts with only a third when they have not been playing that bad this season. You Bruins fans seem to think trading is on easy mode.

1. Moore is not on a bad contract, just no place for him in the Bruins Lineup.
2. Backes has a cap hit of 6M while the team taking him would only need to pay him 3M, which is a perfect contract for a team in a rebuild looking to reach the cap floor.
3. I would like to know what you are defining as good, they are evidently in a rebuild.

Either way that wasn't the trade I proposed I mentioned to Detroit that didn't involve Moore cause he still has value for the Bruins being able to play up and down the lineup

Marleau was traded with a 1st, Hossa with Hinostroza, Bickell with Teravainen etc. If you are going to trade Backes they need at least a first or second rounder or a good prospect.
Backes+2nd for a 4th is more reasonable

This is next year. They currently have 42m in salaries in next year and 38m in cap space. With only a few UFA/RFA to deal with. A cheap owner who wants to keep actual salary down while staying above the cap floor. They gain assets for nothing. It’s exactly the type of move they make.

This fallacy on this site that every cap dump has to be like Marleau’s was is a joke.

Every org has different need, ideas, values, and situations.

Marleau was a unique situation. They had to move him. The team obtaining him had to buy him out with no cap relief.

Backes and a 2nd is about the same as Backes+Khulman+3rd

Also with the Hossa and Bickel deals which ya forgot to mention was Chicago got a 2nd and a 3rd back for Teravainen when Teravainen was seen as a 30-40 pt guy and Chicago got a pt per game junior player who is now almost a point per game AHL player in his first AHL Season.

The only bad cap dump was the Marleau one, and I don't see any team other than Toronto making that one.

The Chicago Blackhawks traded Hossa's contract, along with forward Vinnie Hinostroza, defenseman Jordan Oesterle, and third-round draft pick in the 2019 NHL Draft to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Marcus Kruger, MacKenzie Entwistle, Jordan Maletta, Andrew Campbell, and fifth-round draft pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Hossa and Bickell were cap dumps. Teravainen was traded at 21 who was a first round pick. Hinostroza has second line potential.

Hinostroza makes up for it being a third rounder as he has second line potential. Take out Moore and put in Heinen or Andersson if you want to keep the third.

Vinnie is a mediocre 3rd liner.

Entwhistle may end up the best piece in that trade.

Regardless, I just don't see any team, especially Melnyk's team, seeing any incentive to take on 8.75 aav in while only gaining a third. We'll just have to wait until the summer.

The reason Melnyk would do it is because he would gain the need space to add onto the cap while only having to pay half of the money. We'll see!

Well it’s also Moore who has value and they buyout Backes and his cap hit is 4m instead of 6.

However i don’t think Boston moves Backes. I think they end up buying him out.

If they can find a deal like the above, or trade Backes and a couple low end prospects for a 7th...sure. I doubt they do.

If they can find someone that wants him and retain half....sure.

But i don’t see it happening. And B’s fans that think it will be easier because he his NTC is cut in half are sadly mistaken because few teams have the ability or desire to take him and they will be on the list. He will be more open to waive in the offseason. After a buyout he can sign anywhere or retire.

But they are not trading a 1st to move him just because somebody else did.

Yzerman probably not taking on 6 million in cap for nothing. Wings have several RFA's to sign next year in Mantha, Bertuzzi and Anthanisou. He will also sign at least one ot two free agent defensemen to replace Green, Ericsson and Daley. Those signings alone could eat 22 million in cap space putting the team at 67 million. Cap floor will not be a problem.

Yes Marleau's contract and the cap issues Leafs had meant they needed to add to dump his deal. Not many teams will need to do that, but if Boston is cap strapped you can bet teams with cap will not do them a favor and turn the screws to get the best pick possible.

Double that grzelcyk deal, both in term, and dollars, and ditch that brutal heinen trade. Yikes. There’s no reason for that move.

He's expiring with RFA status, so he's still under team control. Also, his production since 2017-2018 season is on par with DeBrusk, so its weird to say he's not playing to his full potential. Bjork was originally a RW when he came into the NHL and I wish Cassidy would put him back there.
