Alright. Whatever you want to believe

This isn't a belief, its a fact. Weber's best days are very far back in the rear view mirror and its never going to change. He's afterall, a human.

I agree he's not the defensemen he once was, but to say he's isn't still a top 2 defensemen is ridiculous

I think we need to back up here. PleaseBan… isn't making logical points, just ignoring facts and lacing it with hypotheticals, and we need to just accept that. Figured them making a Leafs roster would atleast give some insight as to why they don't like it, but until then... No point in wasting more time. The trade is logical, they just don't like it, which is alright.

The only logical point that matters here is the nearly 8 million contract that Weber holds for another 6 seasons. That contract is a nuclear bomb for anyones cap situation. He declines, and it is still 8 million on the cap. Moving him won't be easy because if he doesn't retire, you have an 8 million dollar anchor on your cap. FOR ANOTHER 6 YEARS!!! TO being a team against the cap with important future contracts coming in the next 3 years, can't afford to have any bad contracts and a 34 year old signed for another 6 years is about the worst contract anyone could imagine. Before jump down your rabbit hole of delusion, and say anything about him retiring, that is a big if. If he doesn't retire? The team with him on their roster is screwed. No GM would be taking that risk, the chances of him declining are guaranteed. No one escapes time itself.

On a lot of teams he's probably still there but we are talking about a guy who has 6 f***ing years left on his contract after this year and he's 34. He won't be a top pair guy on any team within 2 years, and his contract is absolutely not easy to trade, its way too long. Look at Lucic, that is going to be Weber very soon, he can't be traded cause no on can afford to take on his salary without a massive sweetener and Weber is even worse because he has so much term.

He hasn't slowed down at all since he's been on Montreal. I don't see this massive decline you are seeing. He doesn't play with speed. Speed is what declines as you get into your 30's.

Edit: I also don't understand the concept that we must be trying to ditch him just because we propose a trade. Everyone cries for "give something to get something" but when you do "Well, you must think he sucks and are ditching him on me!!!"

What you are getting by moving Weber is cap space and the relief of not having to deal with 6 more years of an 8 million dollar albatross contract. You have to give something up to get that, no one else is going to see the value inherited from a 34 year old with 6 more seasons of 8 million dollar cap hit when you Hab fans have already admitted he isn't what he used to be. He's not going to be getting better as he nears 40, so what is this? Its a cap dump for a team that understands they need to rebuild.

It's 7.8 Million dollars for a top 2 pairing defensemen. He's one of the best leaders in the game and he will turn any team into a cup contender.

Realistically the only team that can trade for weber is nashville due to that MASSIVE recapture penalty. They will healthy scratch him if they have to to stay away from that 24m cap hit.

Current production matters, as well as contract. Tatar isn't a rental. Rentals are typically cheaper, regardless who it is. You have comparable production and an extra year at a low cap hit.
The whole idea is trading good players with value now, to build for the future. Holding Tatar just because he is good goes against that idea.

Quoting: HabsForEver
You are paying more than double for a guy who produces 20 points more. You don't win paying wingers over 10 Million dollars

I’m not saying Tatar isn’t a good player. I’m not saying he’s not gonna bring in a nice return, but what this trade was, is way too much and Pittsburgh would not pay that. Even though hall isn’t signed as long, he’s still gonna bring in much more of a return based on career history. You may not agree with that, but it’s true.

Just like he did in Montreal? How many playoff rounds has he won you guys? If memory serves, the one round he played in was a loss where their opponents exposed the total lack of speed Montreal has on their blueline.

One player can't turn a **** team into a cup contender. He turns a **** team into a pretender. Not hard to see that

Montreal got Price and wasted his prime and now they have no goaltending, and a poor defence.

A starting goalie Price.

We also have the best goalie prospect in the world, the MVP of the WJC last year and the Best Defensemen from the WJ last year. I think we will be fine.

Not to mention one of the best goalscorer prospect we have ever seen (Caufield is setting records everywhere he plays)

Well hopefully you'll be able to afford all those guys. It'll be tough with Weber counting as 8 million against the cap for the next 6 seasons after this one.

Don't worry, our GM doesn't pay under deserving players 10+ Million. They will get what they earn.
