I think we need to back up here. PleaseBan… isn't making logical points, just ignoring facts and lacing it with hypotheticals, and we need to just accept that. Figured them making a Leafs roster would atleast give some insight as to why they don't like it, but until then... No point in wasting more time. The trade is logical, they just don't like it, which is alright.
The only logical point that matters here is the nearly 8 million contract that Weber holds for another 6 seasons. That contract is a nuclear bomb for anyones cap situation. He declines, and it is still 8 million on the cap. Moving him won't be easy because if he doesn't retire, you have an 8 million dollar anchor on your cap. FOR ANOTHER 6 YEARS!!! TO being a team against the cap with important future contracts coming in the next 3 years, can't afford to have any bad contracts and a 34 year old signed for another 6 years is about the worst contract anyone could imagine. Before jump down your rabbit hole of delusion, and say anything about him retiring, that is a big if. If he doesn't retire? The team with him on their roster is screwed. No GM would be taking that risk, the chances of him declining are guaranteed. No one escapes time itself.
