Description
Blues get top 6 forward in Zucker and a Dumba as a replacement for Pietrangelo. Both are locked into contracts for a few years and Wild take a little extra salary their way. This should help Blues with their future cap issues (this trade haunts the Wild for a number of years).
Leafs get a legit top pair defenseman, a backup goalie they can trust, a young forward who will be far more productive in Toronto and a draft pick that could be a very good 2nd rounder if Leafs can't or choose not to re-sign Pietrangelo.
Wild get Nylander 3 very good prospects and hopefully a better Ceci and Hutchinson out of the deal. I'm sure Leafs won't be interested in this deal until after they see how the coaching change has worked out.

Losing Pietrangelo and Kostin isn’t worth it to only get Dumba and Zucker imo. Especially adding in a 3C and Toropchenko. That’s a bit out there for the Blues.

Pietrangelo will re-sign for the Blues tho. His wife is from St.Louis and if you haven’t heard this saying happy wife happy life you should probably learn it.

Well how about Foglino for the 5th rounder you got from the Canes and Toropchenko?

You may be right, but the other side of the coin is Pietrangelo is from Ontario and a few million more a year can make a Wife pretty happy.

That’ll be a big hell no from Toronto. Also trading Dubnyk while he’s away from the team, dealing with his wife’s medical issues would be a real POS move by the Wild

Including all the contract/cap aspects, it's probably the best Petro trade return I've seen here... but it's still not gonna fly. We'er not trading the captain and it will take a helluva lot to get Kostin in any deal because he doesn't need to be protected in the expansion draft.

Dubnyk is currently with the Wild, however his wife seems to be sick and it would be a cold thing to do if it happened right now. I did mention that I think the Leafs would probably wait until they got a good feel for how the team would play under the new coach so I wouldn't expect this to happen now. Finally I don't think the value is far off so a big hell no seems extreme, but go ahead and suggest a tweak to the deal.

Trading the captain when the team is running so smoothly would be highly unlikely and losing Kostin is a tough pill to swallow, but with the looming salary cap issues and the possibility I've presented it may be to good of a chance to pass up. This move could keep the Blues in the Stanley cup window for 2 or 3 more years with the current cap situation it likely all falls apart after this year.

Nah, we'll be contending for a while however Army works out the cap situation.

Every team seems to want Nylander now after we were all told last year he was an overpaid bum.

Not sure the Leafs want to do that deal, Nylander is an integral part of their team and the cheapest of their big 4 forwards. I see them making a smaller deal and then trying to pitch Pietrangelo in free agency. I would think they have a better chance to sign him with Nylander on the team because they're better. And while upgrading at backup goalie might be helpful, it's not worth the price here.

Liljegren and Nylander aren’t getting traded. Definitely not for 2 guys over 30. So I repeat hell no, Nylander untouchable unless you come with an offer too stupid to pass up.

With all the big contracts, I don't see those as tradable except maybe Mathews which isn't going to happen, where will Leafs find the money? I know the Leafs have a few expiring contracts, but they need money for depth guys.

Donato and the draft pick are the compensation for Pietrangelos age. Dubnyk is only a improved backup so worry about him being over 30 is pointless.

Still a no. Especially when, if Toronto were to offer up a Nylander and Liljegren package, they could A. Get a way better return than your offer. and B. In your idea, they’d be better off going to St. Louis directly.
In my opinion Nylander is untouchable. You have to stop listening to the Leafs fans that are still mad he sat out for what is already looking like a team friendly deal

With the cap situation of both teams Leafs and Blues need another team to facilitate a trade. I understand not wanting to give up Nylander and Liljegren, but Liljegren isn't even Leafs best defensive prospect. The Blues and Wild won't enjoy seeing their guys go either but for Leafs and Blues it's about winning now and these trades get both teams closer.

Enjoy contending, but if Wild trade Zucker to Avs, that's all you will be doing. Avalanche are already stacked and any teams contending better hope they stay injured or find a way to get better.

Which depth guys? And why trade a top of the lineup player to free up money to sign depth guys? I certainly don't think any rational GM would do that. They have almost 16 million in space next year and they don't have to deal with those stupid LTIR contracts so that will make their job much easier. 8 of their top 9 forwards are under contract, with the last one an RFA. They need to spend some money on D, and be mindful of the future, but your comment doesn't make a ton of sense.

Your not wrong a but a good GM does what he can to acquire good players Pietrangelo is a good player. My guess if no moves are made Leafs let Ceci and Muzzin walk I wouldn't feel comfortable trusting 2 rookies eating those minutes. That means likely re-signing Barrie and moving him into top 4, he will probably cost more than he does now, otherwise you need to go shop for a guy and that could get more expensive.

Mikheyev will probably require a raise as will most of the other RFA's.

Finally your backup goalie. You can go cheap and re-sign Hutchinson, but I'm betting KD isn't going to lose his job like that, so that's more money.

After Leafs finish re-signing the guys they want to keep you might have 6 Million left over. You haven't made your team better yet other than a backup goalie. 6 Million probably doesn't get you the guy in the open market that will get you passed the Bruins or Capitals in the playoffs.
Leafs have drafted well and deserve to reap the rewards, but at some point you need to turn the corner and switch to a win now mentality.
