I would change the Vancouver 3rd to a 4th or 5th to make sure its a cap dump (as also maybe make it Minnesota so its on his trade list...
Other than that, this all looks good!

I think that’s an absolutely insane overpay for Hoffman.

If the leafs gave up a first for Marleau there is no way that the Bruins are moving Backes without one

He was kidding. That post was a joke. They are not interested and he likely would not waive for them.

EDM laughs and declines. They have talked about Gauthier and picks. Kostin. Volkov. Cehlarik is just a roster filler. Little trade value.

why does everyone keep comparing these two. IF TORONTO DOESNT MOVE MARLEAU THEY CANT TRADE FOR BARRIE OR SIGN MARNER. TORONTO HAD ZERO LEVERAGE AND HAD TO PAY A TEAM TO EAT THAT DEAL. Boston on the other hand, has room, and can maneuver still as we have already started the season. Sure it is a cap dump but lets not say these scenarios are the same. They arent even close except for 2 players that had similar cap hits that werent worth it.

Your right they are not the same, Marleau is still an NHL caliber player which the same cannot be sad for Backes

Because people can’t think for themselves.

So if that’s the case the Leafs should trade us Matthews for Grizz. Hall for Larssen says it’s so.

Marleau was also a 35+ contract. So even if bought out (which he was) his entire cap hit counts against the cap. With Backes you'd get cap relief if bought out. There's also the known fact that Marleau wasn't going to play for whatever team he was traded for. It was either he was playing for Toronto or San Jose, that was it. So really Toronto was screwed and everyone knew it. That's why they had to pay a 1st rounder to move him.
