I think it makes sense for both sides. Islanders need to open up a roster spot for Noah Dobson and they s need to upgrade their top 6.

If Habs can get rid of Chiarot's contract in a different transaction, this is so damn good for Montreal.

It's really hard to value defensive players, but if Chiarot and Petry work well together, defensively, Mete and Weber get to play easier minutes and get a few points. Kulak and whoever can do whatever.

I think they probably looked at Jack Johnson as a comparable.

I personally like the deal on both ends, my one concern, the draft is in Montreal so here's my proposal;

Montreal Gets:
-N. Leddy
-A. Beauvillier

New York Gets:
-J. Drouin
-2020 4th round pick (MTL)
-2021 3rd round pick (CHI)

So basically the same trade, but Montreal pays a 4th instead of a 7th to keep as many higher picks in the home-town draft.

It’s definitely a good deal for the habs value-wise, but Leddy isn’t really great for Montreal, considering the log jam on LHD.

I keep hearing this but when you really think about it, Habs have one of the weakest LHD cores in the NHL. Having a logjam of 4-5-6 LHD is problem that is easily fixed and shouldn't be a major concern.. Leddy has proven and still is a top 4 dman through and through. I'd take him in a heartbeat right now. That is unless this team is content with another bottom 5 PP finish. Replace Drouin with Beauvillier, another gars chez nous and I don't see how there is even a doubt at this point.

I like Drouin but even if he can be that 60-70 point guy eventually, its an empty 60-70 point. The kind of player that gets most of his points against non playoff teams and mostly at home only....
