Marner's contract is double the length.. and Points deal is up right after the CBA and the TV rights are renewed. Cap will be skyrocketing and he'll be due to cash in.. just like McAvoy and Werenski

something of note, the difference between point, werenski and mcavoy is mcavoy still has 2 years of rfa when his deal is up. werenski and point have 1

It is not team friendly - it is simply a realistic number for a bridge a RFA contract. Something Dubas was unable to grasp in any of his three major signings to date!

Term aside, Tampa has no state tax. Not all teams are on an even playing field. The next CBA needs to address this. Marner's "take home" money is probably fairly close to Point's. THIS is why Canada will struggle to compete for a Cup until its addressed.

I don't think anyone has issue with Mitch wanting to get paid. It's how he went about it that p*sses people off.

After Points deal it will be interesting to see what the other rfas come in at. And it will be interesting to see how Mitch handles the pressure that's he's added to himself. It's going to take multiple 100 point seasons to make his contract look good.

I think the difference between the Lightning and the Leafs is that the Lightning already had their core locked up to long-term deals— their core being Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman, Vas — so they couldn’t afford to offer something long term to Point without sacrificing a couple of players now.

Ive never understood why its "marner is greedy" he was asking for as close to his teammate as possible. Why would one teammate get the opportunity to make 11.6million and the other HAS TO take a discount? blows my mind how people think. everyone that clamored he NEEDS to take a team friendly contract better be going into their contract negotiations at the end of the year saying welll ide like to give more to the company and everyone else on the team so instead of giving me 5% give me 3% instead.

Agreed - I will never blame a player for getting as much as he can get. I do however blame the dumbazz (or Dubas) GMs who can't properly negotiate these contracts.

Totally agree taxes have so much to do with trying to keep players in Canada just not fair they need to have a central location (say New York) where every player is paid through and taxed equally

A discount? Lol. By the time that the rest of this rfa class is signed I betcha its widely agreed upon that Marner is overpaid by 1.5M.

Anyways, the Marner drama has been debated to death. I'm not that interested in arguing about your opinion.
