Kevin Labanc set the market for Anthony Deangelo

I think Marner more forced other GM's into the Meier comparable due to his absurd ask but yeah.... Not particularly expected.
Funny thing is that Marner got the deal Point deserves while Point got the deal Marner deserves.

Deangelo was crazy to sign that contract.

I know and so was Labanc tho. They both didn't get paid while watching a better RFA counterpart get payed in Meier and Buchnevich

Difference for Labanc though is that SJ still has a hole in the top 6 and no major high end prospects in the pipeline so he's likely pretty safe whereas depending what happens with the D in NY Deangelo could drop down the D depth chart, possibly lose out on PP time and see his numbers drop which could make it tough for him to get paid next summer, he's only gonna have so long to make $$ and coming off the season he had he was easily worth what Pionk got and on a longer term, seriously he was crazy to sign for what he did.
