In what world is Tkachuk worth that? Also, you didn't pay enough for Rantanen

The greatest part of this scenario would be one of the original teams coming back with an offer sheet to get their player back since MTL wouldn’t be able to afford all 3. For example, WPG offer sheets Laine at 8.5-9Mx5 yrs would mean WPG gets Petry and 3 1sts for two firsts a 2nd and a 3rd.

The greater odds are that Laine wouldn't accept a contract if it wasn't 7 yrs. Although your scenario is possible, that's a gamble I'd be willing to take. As it stands right now, between Laine, Rantanen and Tkachuk, Laine would be the last contract I'd try to settle in 4 yrs. But things can change with time.

They can make the case that Gally and Tatar could walk in 2 yrs. And they'll be left only with Drouin. I'm strongly betting they'll try hard to resign Gally.

You make it sound that I could probably get a little something extra in return apart from Tkachuk and Frolik.

would be pretty choked if that was a deal for Rants bc for them to feel the impact of Colefield Primeau, its 3 to 4 years down the line and by then Avs would be off the sweet Mack Contract. Values interseting, personally not a fan of Danault as a piece bc the Avs already have Kadri as 2C with Newhook and Jost/Compher/Bowers fighting for the 3C spot. Not the ideal piece.

Mentioned it before, really think the only guy to get their interest perked would be Kotkaniemi.

I gave him 4 yrs for the same reason Meier and Aho accepted the cheaper short term extensions, they're betting on themselves. Because GMs will feel it's gonna be worth giving them big extensions ( money and term) when they're 25. If Laine was to accept a 8.5 mill deal at 8 yrs from WPG, it'll expire when he's 29. No One will give big extension to a 29 nowadays. If he averages 40 goals for the next 4 yrs, he'll easily get
10 mill × 7yrs in his next contract and will expire when he's 32-33 yrs old.

You’re talking in circles. He won’t accept that 5 yr deal because he’ll wants 7 years but I can give him 4. Makes sense.....

It's your opinion. I say he takes a 4 yr deal and then takes a 7 yr deal when he's 25. My opinion

And that’s fine but 4 years vs 5 years isn’t that much of a difference. My original point was 5 years on the offersheet so WPG gets the best of everything, they get the extra 1st and Petry plus “keep” Laine for the price of a 2nd and 3rd. Laine would still hit UFA pretty early.

And I'm saying he probably wouldn't want to hit UFA status at 29-30, considering the league is giving bigger money to younger players. If he gets plagued with injuries in his late 20s, teams will be hesitant to sign him as a UFA. So that's why IMO he'd probably choose the longer and safer term that expires when he's 32-33.
Your scenario would definetly be amazing for WPG, and pretty laughable and embarrassing for MTL. But it probably wouldn't happen if I had to weigh the safer options for him.

IF HE SIGNS AN OFFERSHEET FOR 5 YEARS HE WILL BE 26! Just like if he signs your offer he will be 25. There’s not really a difference here but yet you keep talking about being 29-30 for some reason.

This entire time you're talking about WPG offersheeting Laine immidiately after the trade!? That scenario is so beyond s***pid, I didn't think anyone would actually throw it out there.

The entire time I thought you meant that WPG will offersheet Laine 5 yrs when his 4 yr term with MTL is up cause he'll still be a RFA at 25.

What a waste of time.

WPG can't afford to give Petry 5.5, Laine 8.5, Connor probably will want the same.

It’s about as plausible as the scenario you set out but it’s stupid too.
