Now, having said that, if you went PoolBoy and say Russel for Mete and a bone, that might work. They need to clear some money off the blueline, and Montréal has cap room..... and Russel would look pretty good as a 4-6 option.

I really like the thought of Puljujarvi with Koko and Lehko on a line, all fins. But think they would me much wiser to trade a player like Armia over Mete as they have many options at RW. Edmonton is lacking in defensive puck possession forwards, a lot of flash but terrible defensive. So Armia is a good fit there.

Are you kidding ? Mete is excellent defensively, and he's 21 yo. How many Dman played 2 seasons top pairing at 19-20 years old ? If that was the prize for Gardiner, MB wouldnt have sign Chiarot. Forget about Gardiner. Mete will be and he is actually a solid top4 Dman. EDM take this in a heartbeat, MTL will never to this. Maybe Armia for JP, not Mete lol.

from everything being said it sounds like he wants to stay in Toronto and the leafs plan on bringing him back and he hasn't signed anywhere else for that reason.

Guys got the same amount of nhl goals as probably everyone on this website. Not saying goals determines how good a dman is but that’s just awful considering he’s entering his 3rd year in the nhl

yeah but we keep hearing more and more that Gardiner wants to stay and he's waiting for leafs to figure out LTIR and Marner so I think theres some weight to the rumours. Also teams haven't been willing to give gardiner term and money and it's been said that he would be willing to return for less money like 4 million or so for longer term

Teams are scared about his injuries and I’m sure he’s considering it because he’ll have a chance at a cup considering all the teams are so close

with the leafs adding Tyson Barrie it helps bulk up their d core taking pressure off gardiner to possibly return with load management and time with the leafs medical staff and time to get his health back and ultimately compete with a great team for a cup I could see it happening

Mete is worth more then Pool Party, just that simple. He has played more significant minutes, has looked better during those minutes and has progressed at a steady rate with more to come.

Pool party just had hip surgery and is forcing the team to trade him, you dont give up a lot of value for that player.

IMO the Habs shouldn't be spending to the cap with long term players that don't really want (Gardiner).
Lots of teams have cap issues. Surely the Habs can pick up a one year rental to play LHD.

Roster projection is based on STATISTICS.
Compared to Mete, Gard. provides far better OD+DD numbers and strenghtens defensive mobility (zone entries, points, transition play).
Pulj. is a low risk signing with potential upside (heard of repeated hip problems, but that's not confirmed yet). All trades are financial worst case scenarios. So they're definitely compatible w/ restrictions regarding salary cap issues.

If MTL wants to compete next season, they have to mature and - by given cap situation - make a gamble (Pulj.) that may pan out. If it doesn't it's not crucial in the long run and they can turn to other options (Evans, Suzuki, Caufield). But hey! - I'm far from being Dr. Know-all
