Not enough of a return for matthews

Its funny how this site has an insane price for McDavid (He's the best player in the league sure, but he's not worth half of the packages people post on here) and then at the same time Matthews is worth a 28 year old defenceman and a pretty good young player. Its not a small package but its like Matthews is a good second line centre according to cap friendly fans.

It's almost too big of a return for Matthews. Top 20 dman plus one of the best shut down dmen in the league.

At his best Matthews is better than peak Crosby.

Ekman Larsson is better than "28 year old defensemen" by a long shot. If that's your starting point it's hard to have an actual discussion with you.

I’m sorry you don’t appreciate facts.

Obviously he's better than just a 28 year old defenceman but the point is, McDavid trades are stuff like, Eichel, Dahlin and 3 1sts according to this site and then Matthews is a guy nearing the end of his prime and a moderate prospect. They are both super elite players and yet this site sees them as not even close. Not saying they are equal but they are both among a very small group of young star centres. Matthews may never be nearly as good as McDavid but he'll probably see more success due to being on a better team. And despite that he's treated like a 2nd line centre by some.

I'm not a big fan of the Matthews 11.632m contract. But I like it better than the OEL contract of 8.5m for a 28 year old. Matthews would only be traded for quality young stuff, with some cap relief to the trade.
