Description
So I've kind of just been staring at this and cant decide who I'd even target with the picks and space.

Some thoughts:

Hamilton: don't think they want to move him. I think they'd rather move Faulk
Manson: I don't think he's really available
Doughty: his contract will be such an albatross soon
Dumba: acquisition cost will be quite high because frankly he's a good building block for them
Ekblad: if Fla is willing to move him, which I don't really think they are, acquisition cost will be appropriately high and that scares me given his concussion history.
Werenski/Jones: I don't think they're available.

Is there any other under 28 top pairing RD that even may be available?

Kronwall is awful at this stage in his career.

Williams is signing in Carolina or retiring.

Vanek would be fine but I don't think is necessary.

I don't think a team will offersheet 4 x 1st pick for Marner. I'll see a trade happens a combination of with some picks, some prospects and some rosters players.

My opinion of free cap space this year, is not to spend it on any long term signing. There just doesn't seem to value in any remaining UFAs. I'd just wait and spend the money next year.
My second alternative would be to offer sheet, Tzachuk.... You might get him a bit cheaper and could Calgary match? Plus you're hoping the Leafs four first rounders are of less value than the four rounders you're getting from lets say the Islanders.

I certainly hope they don't give him that much. If they do it better be 8 years. He isn't better than Aho.

I would not sign any UFAs for large cap that's for sure.

Tkachuk is not getting into the 4 1sts. That's nuts. He should be below 8.5 which isn't even 2 firsts.

But the Leafs don't have next year's first so to offersheet would need to get it back.

But frankly losing Marner is a gift to take some cap from forwards and allocate it to d

Oh I would be happy if we got 4 firsts and the cap space. Bye Marner

You know what has to happen before the next off season? The entire 2019/20 season. Everyone needs to stop worrying about what happens next off season. Obviously Dubas and Pridham have a plan and are creative. They have a good defence this year, a fantastic forward corp and a great goalie. All they need to be successful is a coach to evolve. Babs built a reputation as one of the best coaches in the league, he now needs to learn how to grow a little and the Leafs will be fine.

I'm stuck in a hospital with a relative who is fortunately sleeping. Just killing time

I just feel anxiety runs deep within Leafs nation these days and it really shouldn't for the first time since the Quinn era, there is a clear cut plan in motion. Dubas is great, Shanahan is great, Babs is questionable and this team very well could win the cup this year. They should have one of, if not the best offense in the game, they should be hard to play against because they have speed all throughout the lineup and if Babs can figure out how to adapt to the team he has in front of him, they could challenge for the presidents trophy.

Solid post. I really do get the sense that for the first time in forever, and despite the media nonsense that drives this ridiculous anxiety, the organization really is in good hands with a solid plan and good personnel throughout.

The only wrinkle I see right now is a serving of humble pie that might be on order, and how that will be receive. Regardless, dessert will be served at some point. And then we can on to the after dinner drinks
