I dont follow your logic. I never said they were overpaid. Im saying they would over pay in terms of what they just got. 3.2 compared to 4. and 3.4 compared to 4. 1.4m in additional cap hits for the next 3 years. thats 2 veteran players or almost what ron hainsey will sign for at 1.5

Thing is....real life GMs arent some butthurting revengive kids like some users of this site are....they think strategically, they are even friends, ex-teammates and similar.....so those offer-sheets arent thrown around like its NHL 2019.

Im not butthurting or revengive. Im doing the exact same thing holmgren did to nashville with weber. Im trying to either poach a good player for compensation i think is worth it, or im at the very least raising his cap amount against a rival team. It makes sense and more teams should be doing it. They just dont want to spurn the league and when they inevitably get fired, want a job later as a gm.

I had guessed Kapanen would be 3 x 3M and Johnsson would have bet on himself and went cheaper on shorter term 2 x $2.75M. I think Dubas finally figured out contract negotiations at the NHL level. He overpaid a bit on Nylander and took too long. He basically got bent over on the Mathews deal because of the pressure to avoid another holdout and he paid UFA price for an RFA without getting max term. These two deals are pretty good to get good middle six wingers on decent contracts over their SC window. Curious to find out how Marner's will go now that these ones are out of the way.
