Rangers thank you for the prank call. Laugh, hang up.

Lauzon, 2nd, 4th does not begin to touch Kreider, having to take Backes is a penalty on top of that.

On top of which, Kreider is not the piece they need. Don’t need another LW. Need a RW. Debrusk was highly ineffective playing RW. This is square peg round hole crap that they have been doing since Backes failed to be the RW2 they brought him to be.

Lauzon, 2nd and a 4th is barely enough to dump backes let alone get Kreider
Edit* it’s actually not even enough to dump Backes, I thought he only had one year, two years is gonna cost even more

A different defense prospect or an upgrade in picks would be fine. Rangers can easily take the Backes contract, and could use his leadership in their room.

Rangers want no part of Backes. It would require a similar package to what Toronto gave up to get rid of Marleau (arguably more due to the extra year on his contract).

Great leadership from the luxury suites in Game 7.

We already have Staal and his $5.7M contract for "veteran leadership ". Don't need any more.

The Rangers are in no position to take on his salary. They are trying to rebuild and Trouba will take a large portion of their 17m - Pretty sure they want to take a run at Panarin as well, and if they give 10 to panarin and 7 to trouba that = no money left.

Actually he is better dump than Marleau. After July 1st has actual salary for the year is 1m and is a cheap buyout next year. Canes will be on the hook for all of Marleau's cap hit this year, even if they buy him out.

But ya remove Kreider and that kind of package would be to move Backes. But not likely the Rangers,

He would definitely cost more than Marleau... He is owed $8mil Marleau owed 3.something, Marleau 1 year $6.25 buyout or not, Backes if bought out now will be 5.6,3.6,.6,.6... way worse, and if they don’t buy him out till next year it’s one year of 6 then 4,1 also way worse than 1 year of 6.25

Look again. After July 1st he only owed 5m over the next 2 years. 1m in actual salary this year. And the buyout next year is very reasonable. You are stuck with him this year however.

Ok so if trade is after July first then yeah it’s 5 mill which is still more than Marleau, and then it would have to be the full 6 mil this year so almost as much caphit as Marleau this year plus another 4 mil next year and 1 after that.... which is waaay worse than just the one year with Marleau, it’s gonna cost more than the Marleau dump cost

It's not the full 6, it's 5 over two years so way less than Marleau. Marleau also had a NMC, the price for dumping Backes will be less than Marleau.

As I said if they get him after July 1 he is owed $5mil and Caphit is 6 mil this year then buyout next year comes to $4 mil and then $1 mil cap hits... other option is to trade before July1st and he will be owed $8 mil and the buyout can happen right away for cap hits of $5.6, $3.6, .6, .6... not that complicated to see that both of these option are worse than 1 year $4.25 mil owed and $6.25 mil caphit

He’s owed 1M this year, easy for a cap floor team to take on, he’ll go for less than Marleau

Holy how many times will I have to say this... currently he is owed $8M which is $3.75M more than Marleau, if the trade is after July 1 then he will be owed $5M which again is MORE THAN MARLEAU, and the acquiring team will be stuck with his full $6M cap hit this year plus the buyout for the next 2 years after

How many times should I say that 2.5M salary (less than Marleau) on a 6M cap hit is a good thing for a floor team? Have a good one.

Where are you getting that #? 2.5 less than Marleau would be 1.75... so where does it say he only owed 1.75? Cause capfriendly says he is owed 8 so explain

He is paid a 3M bonus on 7/1. After that it's 5M over TWO years or 2.5M per year on a 6M cap hit while Marleau was 4.25 on a 6.25 cap hit with an NMC. That's a worse asset for a cap floor team.

There aren’t any teams right now that want a $6M caphit though, he would be bought out and his caphit would be a burden to any team in the league, $5M vs. $4.25M is all that a team with a lower budget cares about, and the 2 years of $6M caphit is worse than 1 year, NO TEAM WANTS YOU DEAD CAP

Plenty of teams need to get to the cap floor over the next two years and would want a player who's real money <50% of his cap hit. 5 vs. 4.25 doesn't matter since the 5 is spread out over two years. and you get the cap hit for both years.

Just glad we agree that Backes makes less real money than Marleau smile

Any team trying to get to the cap floor, Ottawa's the obvious one given how cheap Melnyk is.
