& I think you don't know what you're talking about. There's 0 chance he gets over $11M. He's not better than Kucherov or Stone or Kane. His best comparable is Kane and his deal coming off ELC. Kane's second deal was a cap hit percentage of 11.09%, against an $83M cap next season that works out to $9.2047M which is right around market value for Marner on a similar 5-6 year deal. What has he done that says he's worth almost over $2M more than Kane if you're suggesting he deserves $11.325M? There's no logic to that amount and anything over $10M is an overpayment.

How do you feel about Nylander making more than the big 3 in Boston? Salaries have gone crazy the last couple years. Only a short while ago 6M per season was a big number but now teams can have half the cap used on 1 line

Again, it's not about the actual dollar or cap hit number as much, it's about the cap hit percentage at the time of signing.
Nylander: 9.4%
Pastrnak: 8.89% (most comparable)
Marchand: 8.39%
Bergeron: 10.69% (not a comparable at all)

Was Nylander a slight overpayment? Yes by a little. But the Boston players also didn't have the same comparables when they signed their deals and at perceived to have taken a discount to stay together. That's their personality. Not their skill.

I honestly don’t see how Toronto can get away with paying him less then Matthews... if they can great! But I don’t see him settling for less unless it’s a short term deal, 5 years
