NYI Offseason - Remaining UFAs Walk

Créé par: Hockeygoalie53
Équipe: 2019-20 Islanders de New York
Date de création initiale: 6 juin 2019
Publié: 6 juin 2019
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Took a stab at what would happen if all the remaining UFA's walk and Lou has to retool completely

1) Signs Panarin and Bobrovsky to replace Lee and Lehner.
- They come as a package deal - Panarin gets 7yrs 70mil (10m AAV) and Bob gets 6yrs 60mil (10m AAV)

2) Trades Leddy to Montreal for picks

3) Trades Mayfield to TOR for Kapanen - Don't want to move Mayfield, but with Dobson making the team one of the RHD's have to go.

4) Gives Ho-Sang an opportunity on the 3rd line.

Should leave plenty of room to sign Barzal, Pulock and Toews next offseason as well:

Barzal - 8yrs 64-80mil (8-10m AAV depending on the season he has)
Pulock - 5yrs 25-30mil (5-6m AAV)
Toews - 2yrs 4mil (2m AAV) - Same deal Pulock got coming off his ELC.

Mtl wont trade the 15th OA for Nick Leddy. For a young defenseman ok, not Nick Leddy. The best trade with Leddy is Tatar vs Leddy 1 on 1

Mayfield and a 3rd equals the 2nd round compensation they would get if someone signed Kapenen to an offer sheet, but in this case TOR gets a RHD they desperately need instead. Honestly, I wouldn't do more than Mayfield for Kapanen straight up being someone who has watched Mayfield a lot and saw the progress he made last season and given his extremely cheap CAP hit for a 2nd pair D.

Strictly in terms of value, sure, but Mayfield is a young, low cap hit right shooting defenseman with term. He’s also shown he can handle 2nd pairing minutes and could have room to grow. He’s a fantastic fit for a cap strapped team like Toronto, and letting Kapanen go for a more cap efficient contract in a spot you need players more would be worth it to the Leafs.

Mayfield for Kapanen is fair IMO because Mayfield checks 3 of the maple leafs biggest check boxes, physical, cheap contract and a RHD. He made great progress last season too

Leddy is a Top pairing LHD defensemen who before last year, put up 40 points a season. He has speed and can move the puck out of the zone. Hamonic got the Isles the #11/12 overall pick AND 2 2nd rounders, Leddy can easily net the #15 overall+. Also, given Montreal's need for a Top 4 LHD and the amount of interest there will be in Leddy, they will need to give up the 15th OA.

Isles say no to Tatar for Leddy straight up... either has to be Drouin or Gallagher straight up for Leddy.

Gallagher worth twice Leddy I’ll stop commenting your post you dont know your hockey. If Leddy is so good keep him, Pelech Hickey Toews none of those are legit top 4 Dman

I like Mayfield a lot but I feel like at least him and 2nd would be price for Kapanen with high demand for this young speedy winger. Would you guys do Mayfield and Bellows for Kapanen?

I think too. Maybe that sweetener would be contract extension in place? Maybe some depth LHD prospect like Borgman?

Kapanen has to physically sign the offer sheet first (a fact everyone here seems to forget). He has made no inclination he wants to leave Toronto. Offer sheets are so rare that they are not a big threat to this team.

It always seems to be Islanders fans trying to sell Leaf fans on Mayfield. I wonder why that is....

Borgman can potentially step in for you and Kapanen would likely slot in top-6 besides either Barzal or Nelson (preferably with Barzal, he fits there more) and Mayfield would help stability of Leafs right side and PK and Bellows would likely become powerforward Leafs would use properly high in the lineup who can snipe it. Good deal for both teams.

We will gladly keep him, problem is we have a younger version of Leddy all ready to go and can use Leddy to get some future pieces and not impact our D. And lets be real, Gallagher is good, but he's not worth 2 of Nick Leddy... come on, that's just ridiculous. Him, Drouin and Tatar all put the similar numbers last year, only difference between the 3 is Gallagher is younger and on a better contract.

And in all honestly, lots of rumors suggest two things... Leddy for Hoffman straight up is something that could happen (Hoffman is a far superior winger than Gallagher) and, if Leddy is made available, there are going to be teams lining up for him, so someone is going to have to give up something really good to get him. Montreal desperately needs a Top LHD, so you pick... the #15 overall or Gallagher.

Sure, he has a good contract, and is big, and is right handed. People say he's good but his numbers don't seem to be good. He's only played one full season, and had a 44% CF with a 102 PDO. His numbers at zone entries and exits are slightly worse than Nikita Zaitsev's, who Leafs fans hate because he can't make a breakout pass. Everyone tells me I should "watch him, and then you'll see." I did watch him, he's slow and did nothing to help the Isles as he got run around by Carolina's forwards.

Again, he's a guy. And he might be a fully capable NHL defenceman. But if the Leafs are moving a guy like Kapanen, who's a zone entry beast and still has some growing to do in his offensive game, I'd like to see somebody who can be a realistic partner to Morgan Rielly, not a bigger, slower version of Zaitsev. You can call me a Leafs homer if you want to, but I don't see the value in moving him for Kapanen.

It's a trade of both teams trying to use what they can to get better. Isles are stacked on D, with several prospects ready to step into the NHL already. Toronto, whether fans want to admit it or not, is facing a serious CAP issue and need help on D. Mayfield is young, cheap and a reliable 2nd pairing D and Kapanen, while talent just put up his best season of 44 points and TOR isn't like to be able to resign him if they sign Marner to a big deal.

As for offer sheets... yes, they have RARELY happened in the past, but there has also never been this kind of crop of RFA talent available, compounded with the number of teams (with those RFAs) who are facing CAP crunches... this is the year to use an off sheet if ever there was one.

And again, on Kapanen, the Isles (or any other team) can offer sheet him and only have to give up a 2nd round pick, so why exactly would they trade more than a 2nd round picks value to get him??

Yes, Toews is who I was referring to. Pelech can play Top 4 minutes (He did so last year), but I agree, he and Hickey are more bottom pairing guys. We also have Aho in the AHL who probably should have made the team last year who can step in as well the way Toews did this year.

Gallagher worth so much than Drouin & Tatar. He’s a 30 goals scorer getting paid 3.75M. Gallagher worth more than Hoffman what Im I reading. Hoffman got trade for a 2nd round pick. Mtl wouldn’t do Gallagher vs Edmonton 8th OA

Well, if Montreal views him that highly, that's one thing, but that doesn't mean that's what his ACTUAL value is. Plus, trading him for Leddy gives Montreal a bona fide Top 4, even Top pairing LHD for the next few years, which fills and immediate hole for them. Trading him for the #8 overall pick doesn't give them that. But again, my point was, Leddy is going to bring back a Gallagher type player or an early to mid 1st round pick given the amount of interest there will be in him.

As for Hoffman, he was traded for a 2nd round pick because they wanted him out of Ottawa. The original trade from OTT to SJ was a larger package and he was then flipped by SJ, who didn't need him and couldn't afford him, for a 2nd, 4th and 5th round picks. He also then went on to put up a 70 point season in FLA, scoring 36 goals and adding 34 assists... even with only 1 year left on his deal he has more value than Gallagher. So, again, if he's what it will take to get Leddy, then Montreal has to surrender AT LEAST Gallagher or the 1st round pick.

You’re way off man. We doesn’t need that bad a LHD, Mete is doing the job. Gallagher is MTL player with the most value, more than Price Weber Domi

Everything I've read has said that Montreal's biggest need this off season is to find a Top 4 LHD and that they will be all in on Leddy if he's made available.

Leddy for Tatar that’s it. But MTL will start next season with Mete-Kulak top 4 and we dont know who’s going to play the last spot on the left side.

Ok, then the Isles will move Leddy to someone who actually knows his value and Montreal can have fun trying to find a Top 4 LHD as good as Leddy.
