Well, that's certainly a sensible position, but it's totally irrelevant because the premise of this post is what the terms of a negotiated deal after an offer sheet would be. The premise assumes that Dubas has leverage because he and Lamoriello are negotiating a deal.

There's nothing to assume of it though, it's the same situation with Nylander. Dubas didn't have the leverage to get a good enough deal.

Yes, there IS an assumption. It's right underneath Mitch Marner's name inside the trade box: "Rather than 4 1st round pick compensation Dubas and Lamoriello reach an agreement"

But there's nothing to assume because this same situation happened last offseason
