Brodie is not enough of an upgrade (or at all) on Juulsen to be worth a 1st. Also, despite being a left shot, he plays on the right.

Probably not the best strategy for a team in a rebuild. Just be patient and let the young guys develop. No need to overpay for a wild card spot and first round exit

We lose 2 1st round pick + Juulsen but already have Cale Fleury & Josh Brook RHD. So not a big deal losing Juulsen. Poehling Suzuki Ylonen Romanov are all coming. Brodie Mete Romanov you got your 3 LHD. We acquiere a top 2 LHD + a top 6 RW.

Never trade first round picks just to make the playoffs. Trade first round picks to become a contender. These moves don't make MTL a contender

MTL will be contenders in 3-4 years. Brodie will turn 29 yo this summer, Ehlers is only 23 yo. MTL need to make the playoffs the couple next seasons.

The ehlers trade I think is unnecessary but I can ignore. Why get brodie when he's gonna cost a 1st and he's gonna be past his prime really soon?

Petry enter is prime at 30-31, Blake Wheeler too ( exeption ), most D are in their prime 27 - 32 yo.

You said it yourself that MTL wouldn't be contenders for 3-4 years. Aka past brodies prime by your definition

Yes but if we're not making the playoffs next 2 seasons Marc Bergevin will lose is job. You think one year your not in the playoffs and next one you're contenders ?

I don't think that's the case. Bergevin won over a lot of his doubters with how his trades turned out this past season. As long as they're making progress and he's not making any terrible trades (like giving up a 1st for brodie) I think bergevin should have some time. Let the kids develop. The rebuild just started and is way ahead of schedule

I totally agree. But people thinks because we missed the playoffs by 4 points, we need to make them next season. This site is just for fun, I know he wont do that. Poehling Suzuki will play in Laval next season and we will be back with the same team next year.

15th OA + Shaw retained is fair. Shaw got 47 points in 63 games Ehlers 37 in 62 games. Shaw bring some grit, and can replace Ehlers. And they get the 15th OA pick, it's fair enough

No, it’s not
Ehlers is young & getting better
Shaw had a decent year with 19goals, but had ONLY 10 the year before and ONLY 12 the year before that
Plus he’s 4 years older & ALWAYS HURT

They can acquire grit (not that they really need it) without having to give up Ehlers

15OA is nice, but keeping Ehlers is much nicer

Well... he was hurt & played 20 less games than last year
Even if u wanna say he had a “down” season, it’s his only 1
While Shaw had 4 declining seasons in a row before this one, and has ONE season of 20 or more goals
Ehlers has done that ALL 3years since his rookie season & has potential to get 30

Thinking they’d even consider this deal is bonkers

1) why would they even trade Ehlers?
2) the 15th pick is nice, but u don’t trade a 23yr old who has 3 seasons in a row of 20+ goals for a pick that u HOPE could possibly develop into the guy u just gave away
3) Shaw is an average player. They can get a guy like that without having to give up a really good young player in Ehlers

This trade is brutal dude
