Not debating your logic on the trade, but your logic on Carolina being a top 4 team is a little strange. Carolina barely makes it in to the playoffs and over the course of a handful of games is a top 4 team, while Tampa is a top 16 team by that logic.

To be honnest, I think Carolina is closer to a Stanley cup than TML. Top 5 defense in the league, Ordinary goalie, Andersen is better but TML will never win a cup with this goalie-defense combo. In the next years, with Necas, Foegele and Svenchnikov, they will have a very good offense team.... Also, they have cap space, add a good goalie

Teams don’t trade 3 players for 1, they usually follow the formula roster player, prospect and pick for a star player (maybe 2 players, prospects or picks depending on the star). If I’m Dubas, I would want Slavin or Pesce (with a bigger return) in any deal that involves Marner

So let's just gloss over my tampa point, about the playoffs not necessarily indicating who the best team is as it succumbs to small sample sizes and luck compared to the regular season. I never mentioned Toronto in my post and their ranking next to Carolina, but sure let's play.

Toronto is still young, and a very good offensive team, better regular season, better offense, worse defense but has some pretty good prospects like sandin and lilly coming soon, better goaltending. Carolina's offense is young with some nice prospects like you mentioned, but prospects are risky just like sandin and lilly, great defense, worse goaltending. Toronto has some cap issues, carolina will get there soon enough with aho and svech. Meh i think most would give a slight edge to Toronto right now but it's very close, we'll see what happens this offseason.

Now as for playoffs. I think playoffs have a lot of randomness, but you clearly dont so this next part must hold a lot of weight. Canes swept by boston in 4, Toronto beat by boston in 7, but I've said before playoffs have a lot of randomness, so I dont put a lot of weight in that, you must though.

They were in the conference final, but the playoffs is a crap shoot a lot of the time. Over the course of an 82 game season they aren’t a top 4 team. By crap shoot I mean a team can have a record setting season but one bad week ends that. At the same time a team can have an up and down season and limp into the playoffs, but have a couple weeks of amazing games.

What is the NHL bhampion of the season 2017-18? Washington. Why, because they won the stanley cup, they weren't 1st in the regular season....

Facts, only facts!! If all the 31 teams replay the 82 games the results will be different!! No one can tell... We don't remember what happens in the regular season, only the the playoff... and for this year, Carolina is top4. If Boston win the cup and after plays against TB, yes maybe TB will win, but that's not the reality, TB, TML, WASH... are out this year. ONLY FACTS

If your point is to say that Carolina is a top 4 team in the 2018-19 playoffs then I agree. If it comes to consistently performing like a top 4 team then I’d disagree.

I get what youre saying, and im saying that I dont agree that they were top 4 in the playoffs, for the same reasons I said previously... Also, Their road to the ECF wasnt anyting to boast about. besides the caps (who have a history besides last year to choke), they played the bottom of the barrel (never thought NYI was actually legitimate)

dude...what are you even trying to say? do you not get that just because you win a championship in ANY sport that doesn't mean you're the best team? regular or post season. It means you did what you had to do in the series you had to play. but different series matchups could change that

The best team of the last year is Washington. They won the cup. The BEST team for a year, it's the champion team!!
You cannot tell that TB is the best team this year, they lose in the 1st round.
