every single one of these moves heavily favours Toronto. not a single one of those players signs for as much as you said, and not a single team accepts those trades. plus Marleau won't go on LTIR, and you're still over the 83 mil cap. i get it if you're dreaming but c'mon man

I hear the this "what the player wants" all the time for many players. Yes, it really doesn't matter, cause the team(s) have their number/rights too. So unless their is a competing offer sheet, or the player wants to player in Europe, it really doesn't matter what the player wants. The agreement will be what both sides want.

That worked out great for the Leafs with Nylander...turned out bad for all sides this season.

Well his original ask was 8.5m...It was it was absurd was Nylander got by the Leafs. To think Larkin of Wings signed a 6.1m, six year deal in August. But I don't blame Dubas, the Leafs have lots of high priced executives who were in the process. Then they follow up the Nylander signing by overpaying Matthews. Now I know Marner will make the Leaf comparison, but the Leafs have no reason to continue to pay premium for their own RFAs. Hence the Marner's "want" may not mean much. An offer sheet would bring some clarity, as will the contracts of Rantanen and Aho. (two excellent comparables) But in 99% of these cases, the two parties agree to the contract, despite the "wants" of both parties.
