This is a trade I've seen suggested for Pesce, this gets you Faulk right now, this team is clicking and is up 3-0 on the isles in round 2, Carolina have NO reason to move anyone, this isn't a suitable return for the guy who's probably been Carolina's 2nd best D man in these playoffs (Slavin is untouchable)

Détails additionnels:
This is something Canes fans will view as more realistic, McKeown is a really nice depth RD man, as in could make a lot of other teams but won't get a look in because of the depth on the Carolina back end, and Pesce is pesce.

Nylander has a ceiling of around a really really really good 2nd line winger, he's never gonna be David Pastrnak, he's never gonna be Mikko Rantanen, he's never gonna be Gabriel Landeskog. A top 6 player for a Dman who's establishing himself as a top pairing D man is unfair on Carolina's behalf, but to get some form of genuine reaction and reply from leafs fans, I have added to Carolina's side of things.

As a Leafs fan I think both trades are fair. I would rather do the Nylander for Pesce trade and keep Kadri. The Leafs would have to try and resign Faulk. Don't see Canes trading Pesce now

The Faulk deal does nothing to help the Leafs cap. Leafs need one of Kadri and Nylander to remain a Leaf, to play centre.
I think you've overpaid for Nylander. IMO the Leafs need to rid themselves of about 6.5m of net cap. So If Carolina (or any team) could take on Nylander's cap for prospects/picks/ELC might be the only way the Leafs can be cap compliant.

Then why not move Brown and Kap which will be close to 6 mill in cap space gone? Nylander is far better than Kap as is Kadri a d the team is better. Alps the Nylander's ceiling is a 2nd line winger is hilarious. He's already a 2nd line winger at 22, he hasn't even approached his ceiling and this cap fan knows it. Which is why he trades for him.

There won't be a trade between these two teams. Carolina thinks they have 7 Norris candidates on their team. They have currently zero. Good for them in these playoffs and they certainly have a terrific chance at making a long run.

OK, Brown and Kapanen...what's that maybe 5.5m in cap space...still not enough cap saving, now you have to make another cap trade. Now you have three spots fill in the roster...which also costs you cap.
I don't think every fan or every GM in the NHL thinks Nylander is any higher than what it now...a second liner. I know it's subjective. Me thinks too many love Nylander "skills" but don't see that his actual production is just average to good.
If possible I wish the Leafs could prevent Nylander and Zaitsev from returning home during the summer. Both are in need of NHL coaching/discipline and during the off season.

That would be nice for Nylander. I think at the beginning of last year this was true. But based on the year Nylander had and how Pesce is playing for the Canes right now, it is either 1 for 1 or the Leafs add something. The Leafs may have to hold onto Nylander and hope he gets off to a good start next year to get his value back up to were it should be.

Fair weather fans listen to what the buzz is and believe it. Before this past season, everyone was saying Nylander was right there with Marner. One bad season and he's an AHL player. He isn't.

As for you statement about Brown and Kapanen. The team with Nylander is better than the team with Brown and Kapanen. Matthews should have a playmaker on his line because he's the best shooter in the league at 5v5, we have that with Nylander. Brown and Kapanen can be replaced relatively easily. The defence may be young this season but good coaching (I am not fond of Babcock) can help that out.

Trade guys who can be replaced easily and never overpay depth players. That is how to remain competitive. Most of the contenders which faultered this year have a lot of depth guys making too much that will be hard to move. TO only really has Marleau as a bad contract and that is for only 1 more year. Just ride it out and think big picture. Moves like the ones proposed here are entirely short sighted and would be terrible.

Faulk for Kadri and 2 2nds is a joke. Faulk for Kadri is a joke, Faulk for a first is a stretch at the deadline. Muzzin is a better player and he was had for a 1st and 2 B prospects.

Pesce is much loved right now but I don't think he's half the player outside of this system Carolina plays. It happened before where I "defensive defenceman" plays great in a specific system with a specific partner and then as soon as they leave that, they are not nearly as good. Remember who awesome Mike Komisarek was when playing with Markov? Goes to a different system and is terrible. Not saying Pesce will be terrible but it's not like he's a terrific puck mover. He's a good stay at home guy with limited offense that isn't a Norris candidate. Its valuable but let's all settle down a bit. Carolina can keep him, let's find smarter options for this team. Reducing it to a 2 line team by trading Nylander and Kadri is stupid.

BAHAHAHA...I think you mean Pesce brings Nylander +. Pesce has shown he is a top pairing D man and only makes $4 mil per year. Nylander is a 60 pt player who makes $7.

Not with those contracts. TOR should have been more aggressive with this trade early in the year. At this point, I don't see CAR moving Pesce or Slavin. They are both proving to be a top pairing and both are locked up long term on good contracts.

TOR is not going to get full value for Nylander in a trade. They are probably better off trying to fix their salary cap issues elsewhere.
