7M to fill 1 hole or 2-3 UFA and top 10 selection which would fill 2-3 holes. Example signing Tanev, Donskoi and Pirri with that 7M and selecting Turcotte with #8 feels like a better way to get the depth the Oilers need

The fact that you think he is worth more than that is hilarious and shows again that Leafs fans over-value their players.

More bottom 6 talent...fantastic! Then you can wait 2-3 years for your player to be NHL ready...that will keep McDavid happy!

Nylander isn't worth more than a 2nd round pick with close to $7M cap hit.

I’d say middle 6 depth. RNH was driving his line pretty well for the wingers he was given lastyear any of the 3 I listed are improvements over Rieder, Khaira or Chiasson. Plus Benson looks promising to take the next step soon

My bad, didn't realize you are an Oilers fan. He absolutely is worth more than a 2nd. If you put him with McDavid he would likely get 80+ points and then you would be saying his $7 mil is a steal.

Non of those guys you listed are 2nd line players no matter who you stick with them.

Don't want that lazy ass anywhere near the Oilers.

That $6+M Can go along ways to sign 2 players.

Not in today's NHL it can't. The Oilers need high end talent, not bottom 6 forwards (well they need both but start with talent). Why are Oilers fans so against making their team better? It is truly baffling!

@Bluetomorrow83

Not my battle, but I thought some facts were in order:

Tanev plays the 3rd hardest minutes of any forward on his team, after Wheeler and Scheifele. He starts a lot more in the d-zone than they do too. He has a positive DFF% and GF% during those minutes. By TOI, linemates and production he's a 3rd liner. He's WPG's best PKer. These things have value to EDM, even if they aren't sexy.

Donskoi plays anywhere from 1st to 3rd line, had the 7th toughest minutes on his team this year and doesn't PK, but man his numbers vs Elites are good - easily best on his team.

Pirri is a 4th liner, gets fantastic results (71 GF%!) but in a fairly sheltered role.

Nylander is a good 2nd liner, has the advantage of being younger than the others, but played very sheltered minutes this year due to starting late. Even last year though, he played the 7th toughest minutes on the team, hardly a 1st line driver.

I thought I would add each player's 5v5 p/60 (and TOI) - and their most common linemates - for the last few years for context.

Nylander
16-17: 1.77 (1050:46) - Matthews, Hyman
17-18: 2.38 (1134:55) - Hyman, Matthews
18-19: 1.78 (708:49) - Kadri, Matthews

Donskoi
16-17: 0.98 (736:52) - Couture, Ward
17-18: 1.85 (842:40) - Pavelski, Meier
18-19: 1.90 (1008:55) - Kane, Hertl

Tanev
16-17: 0.53 (452:55) - Lowry, Thorburn
17-18: 1.41 (640:19) - Copp, Lowry
18-19: 1.53 (940:19) - Lowry, Perrault

Pirri
16-17: 0.95 (571:01) - Lindberg, Fast
17-18: 6.02 (29:54) - Tuch, Karlsson
18-19: 1.91 (376:40) - Tuch, Eakin

The trade is good for the leafs cap, good for mcdavid and stops the oilers from spoiling another prospect. I think it’s fair value both ways. I don’t think dubas will move nylander but this is certainly not the worst move.

Funny because Donskoi can't even crack the SJ lineup and Pirri can't crack the Vegas lineup. Tanev is a very good 3rd liner and will likely get a substantial raise.

What's funny? I provided some facts, not any particular interpretation or opinion.

Donskoi can't even crack the SJ lineup

And VGK is skating circles around them because of it.

Pirri can't crack the Vegas lineup.

Not surprised, Pirri has been in and out of the lineup with a "lower body" injury.

Unlikely WPG will be able to sign him to a substantial raise, what with Laine, Connor and Trouba needing new contracts. For sure it won't be their 1st priority.

Sounds like excuses to me. Tanev may not be paid by WPG but someone will shell out some cash for him. Just what EDM needs, another bottom 6F making $3+ mil!

Say Edmonton decides to trade the 2019 1st for Nylander, how are the Oilers going to fit Nylander on the team when they don't have to cap space to do so.

Yes I did, and if you think that Yamamoto, Benson and Puljujarvi are on the team next season, the Oilers are in worse shape than this year.

Also if Bear is a scratch, he is better playing in the AHL to get valuable playing time.

One last thing, Puljujarvi will get more than $850,000 as he needs at least a 10% increase over his $925,000 this year. So make his contract $1,015,000 just to qualify. You can pencil Puljujarvi in at $1,500,000 on a 2-way contract.

You need to learn how contracts work. I lowballed by 24K but his qualifying offer is $874k.
