Description
This years Forwards FA class is strong, I would love to see the Hawks add young talent there opposed to drafting Cozens, Dach, Turcotte, or the risk with Podkolzin at #3. In this scenario, they bring back a former draft pick as well as a local product.

I'm also a huge believer that this team needs to win now with the little chance Kane and Toews have many years like last year left in them. They caught a break getting #3, and I think the best move, regardless of their defensive prospect stockpile, is Byram. Detroit seems like a perfect fit for a trade here, as they could easily justify trading one of their three 2nd round picks to get Podkolzin (or Cozens).

These D pairings would each give you an offensive minded D man who can along with a stay-at-home D man that has little responsibility besides protecting the D zone (excluding that last pair, but neither of them may even be with the NHL team next year anyway).

I know everyone says they're over-booked on D, but in my eyes Gus is either traded at the 2020 TDL, or simply not re-signed for what his asking price will be. Murphy I see as someone who is traded within the next 12 months as well. This gives you a D-core of Keith, Seabrook, Joker, Boqvist, Beaudin, Byram, and Mitchell for the next 4-5 years. Krys becoming the odd-man out can be kept for depth or traded if need be.

This amount of cap space would allow you to re-sign Debrincat in 2020, but would require a little creativity to re-sign Strome if his production keeps up. Crawfords pay-cut, Murphy off the books, and an increase in salary cap should allow you to get it done though.

If the Hawks don't take Byram at 3, the odds of him making it to #6 are incredibly diminutive. Both Colorado and Los Angeles have a ton of precedent to take him with their picks.

Playing behind Bouchard, while great for the Knights, probably wasn't ideal for Boqvist. I'd strongly look at giving him a year in Rockford just to help him continue adjusting to North American ice and building his confidence. If Gustafsson's ask is less than $5M, make moving Murphy the priority so he can help Boqvist acclimate to life in Chicago.

You're overpaying Dzingel by at least $1M. Hayes is hard to judge based on how he hasn't performed for the Jets.

The trade value is off. DET would need to offer FAR more...I'm not saying that DET should do the trade, but just that any move up from #6OA to #3OA will require A LOT more than this based on historical values.

I'm not a fan for a couple of reasons. A.) If it's determine Vasili isn't North America Bound...then to me the #6 pick is within 3rd tier talent. Hughes/Kappo...then Vasili/Byram/Cozens/Dach...then the Turcottes/Zegras/etc... So until I hear Vaili's North America bound. the #6 is a tough pill to swallow for me.

BUT more importantly is B.) There's TONs of data to show what trade value needs to be for moving up in the draft. Literally dozens of trades to review. This value isn't close to enough.

Trying to filter top 10 picks only...and picks for picks only

Logan Couture #9 for #13, #44, & #87
Luke Schenn #5 for #7, #37, & #68
Colin Wilson #7 for #9 and #40

So to jump up 3 spots in the draft from #6 to #3...it'll take something more like #6, #35, and #58...Something very close to the Luke Schnn trade, but honestly it would take MORE since it's the #3 OA vs #5OA AND it's jumping up 3 slots vs 2 slots. So start thinking picks from multiple years. The #6, #37, #58 and 2nd rounder next year...Or #6 and 1st next year.

Great. Even more of an opportunity for Hawks in terms of compensation then if they want to move back. Obviously, all of this changes if Vasili is North American bound. I'm well aware of that

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe wishful thinking that Byram would be there at 6, hoping the Top 5 is forward dominated. Moving Murphy definitely has to be a priority to open up playing time for the young guys, not to mention his near 4M cap hit.

Wasn't too sure with Dzingel... originally had 5.75M but raised only due to the FA market these days. Should be interesting to see what everyone gets.

Like the creativity. Hayes yes, but Dzingel really hasn't shown that much in his NHL years, except part of season this season with the Sens. Maybe just keep the cap available for next season if can't find value this year.

True. Even if Dzingel's market is around 5.5M, Hawks could always save that for Strome in 2020 and hope Sikura can finally live up to expectations and fill that 3LW spot here.

If we trade with Detroit, what stops them from taking Bowen Byram? Like they need defense too. I know they have Hronek, Cholowski, and Mcisaac, but taking Bowen Byram would give THEM a top defense in a couple years. The hawks DON'T need Byram anyway. Take the best player available, and if the scouts are saying Podkolzin, then TAKE HIM. I'm aware Byram is great in the 2 way game, but we can't overload our farm with D-prospects. Maybe we could use some 2 way forwards to go along with Kane, Debrincat, and Strome. Podkolzin fits.
