Aside from Cally's buyout, I approve. Why wouldn't you prefer trading him with picks/prospects? Carle's buyout hasn't been pleasant lol.

Stop the madness.. there will be NO bridge deal. TAMPA fan fantasy. Point will finish with over 100 pts. .. previous Tampa bridge deals were done with players with HALF the production and no All Star games. This " Disneyland " mindset is just flat wrong BUT why the heck would you want one anyway? .. to save a few bucks so you can pay him MORE later?.. Fans should be clamoring to " lock up his 20s" .. 8 year 75M and call it a decade of dominance.. to even suggest anything else is both illogical and unrealistic.

WHEN?.. well checks in the mail ... won't @#$ in your ... agents make logical decisions on best interest of their client. Please show me example of a bridge done with a 100 plus pt. Player? Answer zero .. why on earth would Point ignore market contracts of Mc David Matthew's Stones Kuchs etc.... seriously why would he even consider it from player risk standpoint? It downright illogical

The trouble with any bridge deal, is a team could offer Point 10.5m X 5 years and it cost 2 first, a second and third. Then is Point satisfied with 6m X 3 years from Tampa? I expect no....as BOLTLOVER1 indicated in two posts above.

Well, I think he wants to win some cups and 1M less for a cup will not hurt him. After the bridge contract they would offer him 8y in the range 10.5 - 11.5M

That´s correct, but when you look at McKinnon or Scheifele, 2y 7.5M is a massive upgrade.

Because that's what Tampa does, we sign good players to even better contract's. Non-Lightning fans put on their blindfolds and earplugs when this fact is discussed.

AND only 7 players have posted 100+ pt seasons from 2011-2018... None of which reached 110 pts... 2018-19 is currently projecting 9 players with 100+ point seasons this year, 2 of which are on pace for 115+ pts, and kucherov ofc is on pace for 132 points. From 2011-12 to 2015-16 the total goals per game (both goals for and against) was 5.32-5.34. 2016-17 it was 5.45.. 2017-18 it was 5.90.. And now in 2018-19 its 6.03... The NHL is irrefutably scoring more nowadays, so there's your answer for your "100 pt bridge" argument.

McDavid & Matthews are poor comparisons (tax rate difference). Stone is 4 years older & had 2 more successful NHL seasons @ signing date than Pointer. Kucherov is 3 years older, had 1 more successful season @ signing date. And he already ran thru his Tampa 3 year bridge.

This is only possible if Point holds out on signing whatever Tampa offers him... If he signs with us @ 6m x 3 years BEFORE July 1st, it's a done deal bud.

The state tax thing is a loophole that needs to be addressed in the next CBA. 100%

You have to remember the No Income Tax discount. You take his market value, say 9-10 M, then minus 2M and there's your 8 year salary number.

I agree completely, I'd be pissed if I was a Leafs fan or somewhere with a high tax rate. But the reality is there's a tax benefit, & Tampa has all the right and reason to acknowledge it and take full advantage, which they've done and will continue to do with Point's extension.

LMAO! I'm not just "pretty sure", I'm CERTAIN Mackinnon signed his contract on July 8th, 2016... HIS 3RD SEASON. So yes, I will keep laughing my ass off @ you & all the other Capfriendly IDIOTS that don't know how to read analytics, let alone searching a simple 1st grader question like "When did Mackinnon sign his contract?"... tears of joy

What's is Point's motivation to sign before July 1st? And this tax benefit, it mostly meangingless. Certainly Raptors and Blue Jays don't get salary premiums for paying in Ontario, but somehow the tax experts on CapFriendly their the personal tax rate is so important.

His motivation is to get his extension done asap, stay loyal to Tampa and his teammates, & not risk putting his franchise in a bad cap situation while they're literally fighting to keep him in Tampa... And I'm tired of explaining the tax benefit to people, but it's as simple as this. 1. We're talking about the NHL, not the NBA or MLB. 2. Cap hit, and post tax earnings are 2 separate numbers... And YES, the tax rate is what determines the latter. Here's the calculator, knock yourself out: https://gavingroup.ca/nhl-tax-calculator/
