I've been on the other side of the fence in trading for a rental this season thinking it's not a great idea, but I'm starting to come around slowly as the Bruins have continued winning more often lately including 8 of thier last 9 games. If there aren't more injuries before the deadline I think I'd be okay with adding a high priced rental as long as Pastrnak will be fully healthy come playoff time.

Panarin is one of the best if not the best player(s) on the market. He'd add a lot of scoring punch and if he was paired on the 2nd line with Pastrnak and Krejci the Bruins would have 2x "1st lines".

I value this package as something similar to 3x 1st round picks. I feel that's in the ballpark of what a Panarin rental will be worth because he's already gone on record suggesting he's not willing to sign an extension with a team that trades for him unless they outbid everyone in UFA.

I don't see Panarin getting that kind of return. What team is going to give up a kings ransom for a guy that is a complete wild card and could very well leave in the off-season?

He’s got massive concussion issues, and after his bonus July 1st, he’s only due 4 million total for the last two seasons. I think there’s a good chance he outright retires, or if not, he LTIRetires. I’m guessing the bruins will probably have a conversation with him telling him he’ll either be in providence, or on another team next season, and he calls it quits.

I could only do that if I made CBJ retain. His 3M extra would put the B's over the cap.

He'll probably get something similar to this if you compare him to Rick Nash. He's clearly better than Nash so he should get a better return. CBJ think they'll get back roster players but that's unlikely imo.

That's a pipe dream. Anyone looking for a rental isn't likely to subtract from their current roster. You're likely looking at a deal close to this or keeping him and losing him for nothing to UFA.

That's why I traded him lol. I think they'll tell him he's going to the AHL down the stretch and may come back up or he can go play in the NHL with the Blue Jackets.

Undoubtedly. Which is why "keep him" is far more likely. That doesn't change the basic requirement tho.
