I think a player like stecher would be the main piece.

Leafs would not make this deal.

Maybe.. What about Kapanen for Dahlen and something likely a pick? Dahlen is LW which we lack depth of and playmaker.. I would want him. Fits Leafs system almost perfectly.

Thats true that they can offersheet him but GMs are bunch of scared pussies. They would not offersheet Marner, not even Kapanen. The only agressive GMs that would do it are those without cap space to do it because they already have a good team because they make deals good for their teams..

Again you can not offersheet someone under contract and secondly I think the leafs would match rather than take the poor return.

not really. why do u think the leafs negotiated hard against nylander, but let matthews decide his number. the threat for an offer sheet was greater for matthews then nylander. it'll be huge for marner as well. like is nylander worth giving up 4 1st rd picks for or matthews/marner? marner and matthews are. point is. rannatenen is. tkachuk isnt. nylander isn't. u should listen to the 31 thoughts podcast that came out like a day after matthews signed his contract. the reasoning was excellent. made a whole ton of sense. kapenen is also a guy u can offer sheet, because he's cheaper to acquire via offer sheet then via trade. also only the gms with less financial resources are afraid of offer sheets. teams like the rangers, hawks, cancuks, kings, habs etc have a ton of money to counter any sich threat.

Well of course, anything can happen.. to answer your first question.. they were negotiated hard against Nylander because it started hard, Nylanders father and his agent were not willing to listen.. thats why Dubas and Leafs management team dealt harder imo and they wanted to keep their leverage as high as possible. Matthews was willing to listen with his agent and Dubas was therefore more loose and offered him to get certain number path on jersey (crosby like number you know). Also Matthews is better. And Marner is better than him as well so I believe Marner would have this certain number path on his deal as well. I believe once TSN or whoever stated that teams are loading up to offersheet Marner the talks between Ferris and Dubas intensified and they want to get the deal done before july 1st but after the season. My personal opinion is that they are like a million apart and mostly they were off with term.. I believe that during these talks now they had got something done on that deal. Wheather it is years or money of some capacity.. they had now opened talks with Kapanen and his camp which I expect to be surprisingly fast. I believe that until season ends, both Johnsson and Kapanen would have deals done unless they are traded which I highly highly doubt and Marner deal would be really close to finishing touches. I might be wrong and I would eat my words if Kappy is offersheeted but from my own personal opinion I doubt that any offersheet would happen in this league. For me offersheets are dead from ROR offersheet attempt.. but as I said in posts before I might be completely wrong..

That is definitely not correct. They would match such a low offer since the compensation is only a 2nd. Then they would move other pieces to make it work. I know you want to see them burn but it's just not reality. Dubas has more than just 1 plan, he'll be fluid with his moves to ensure the best for the team.

Certainly doesn't help the Leaf cap situation....maybe a bit if at all, which would the only reason to trade Kapanen. And the other two players, might not ever be NHLers.

To answer your question, No. Hutton is a LD and we are in the market for a RD. Another possibility is Dahlen and MacEwen for Kapanen, or some similar deal where you take Zaitsev.
