I think trading that 2019 first round pick is idiotic, trading it for two aging veterans is the height of stupidity

Totally agree, at this point they seriously have to consider blowing this team up and starting over or at the very least realize this season is almost lost. Trading that 1st round pick should only be considered if the return is too good to pass up.

In my opinion, the Oilers are for sure not contending this year. So I agree that moving the pick is pure stupid. But if it is moved, a young player under contract for the next couple years needs to be coming back. Either a good top 6 winger or a top 3 dman (obviously in a package deal). If the Oilers even have the slightest hesitation or drop on confidence in Chia, he needs to be gone. As a fan, i want a GM that is a realist. It’s clear we aren’t contending, so don’t make moves for rentals. Accept that we are sellers, sell at the deadline, and begin the retooling in the offseason. Chiarelli and his desperation are giving the exact opposite message. I’m genuinely scared of what trade he’s going to pull out of his ass next.

If they were to insert someone in the GM position who made a few aggressive moves they might be able to start moving in the right direction but I wouldn’t trust PC to make any more decisions about the future direction of this team. Its gonna be tough to retool in the offseason with so little capspace, players with little value and big price tags attached to them and not many assets to trade. Who would you be willing to trade that 1st round pick for?
