Being a C or A has nothing to do with your points etc... It's all about what goes on behind the scene and a little bit about what happens on the ice. The C on my 1st year in NCAA play was a 4th liner Senior. But he showed up every day and worked extra hard, loved the game and encouraged others work hard, and helped out where ever he could. He helped solve problems between players when things got heated etc...
Our A, given the rules of NCAA are different, was the calmest most level headed person on the team and kind of a smooth talker. The reason is the C and A are the only ones who are suppose to be able to chirp with the refs. You need the right personality for it and sometimes it doesn't hurt to be able to have some leverage or be a smooth talker. That's why Crosby is a captain. He has leverage as the face of Hockey.
So this whole who is important on the ice crap means little to me. None of us know what happens in that locker room. Or what is said. But I can pretty much say given Hörnqvist on ice kind of hot headed at times willing to scuff it up a little. He should never be a C or A. That's kind of the last guy you want engaging with the refs discussing a bad call etc. You got to be pretty calm and have your head wrapped around the rules pretty good.
